... gorilla trekking that day. The group said that they had to trek for 6 hours through thick jungle and up and down the mountains before they found the gorillas!! We definitely got off lightly with our half hour walk J It was great that they'd come up to the lake though as it meant the roads weren’t too bad. We had a really nice boozy lunch with everyone and then the weather packed in so we all ...
Lake Bunyonyi, Kabale, Uganda jandhontour... we hear that yesterday they were only 30 minutes walk away. The trackers were out looking for them so we waited to hear news that they’d located them. Then we heard the good news that the family had not moved far and so off we set down the road.
We tramped along the road we’d come in on, accompanied by two armed guards, our protection from wild elephants or “you never quite know what” and plus one other guard. After about 30 minutes ...
... with everyone on the bus and killed a fair amount of time. James won one round with Sarah.
Unfortunately on the way there it rained a lot, so much so that the road up to Lake Bunyoni was washed out and it was not possible for the truck to get up. Sue even tried going up on a motorcycle to check out the road conditions and could not get up. There were very ...
... given my behaviour in the morning. I confess, I was a little worried too.
Well.... what can I say? It didn’t make me cry. It made me furious. It’s deeply disturbing not because I didn’t already know the extent of the negligence and sheer inhumanity of the “Global Community’s” so-called supranational organs, but because after you have gone through the time line of predictable and DISCLOSED events culminating in those 100 days of slaughter ...
... The government doesn’t want them to do it obviously because they can make money off the animals through tourism. There kind of like the Indians in America because the government gave them a very small piece of land to use and have basically been forgotten about. The tour leader knew a guy who spoke the language and he took us to the village to see them. We arrived and immediately the whole village came and greeted us. We were sat down on some ...
Ruhengeri, Ruhengeri, Rwanda travel_lover87The same two-hour drive we made yesterday is repeated today, as we head to Rwanda over the same dust-choked road. Mental note: Add dust mask to packing list and perhaps motorcycle goggles! It was a bumpy, tough day, but no doubt will be worth the sore bums!
At one point the back latch of one of our vans popped open, and luggage spilled out into the dust. As dust swirled into ...
... free of bilharzia and safe for swimming.
We camped on the lake shore in a beautiful resort, took a boat trip across the lake and visited the Pigmey tribe village.
... were very happy that they can continue to study. I felt really great that could do at least a little to make their life better. It was an unforgettable day, unforgettable experience! Althought I didn't see the mountain gorillas (other than a statue of a couple of them in the resort) I saw and experienced something much more valuable. Hopefully, the gorillas will be still there, next time I go to Rwanda. This is an increadible country, which I hope I can visit again one day.

6:30am breakfast so we dragged ourselves out of bed and were on the road for 7:30.
Game drive.
We stopped for lunch in Kabale, and had to organise our own lunch so after hitting the supermarket we search for a restaurant where we can eat. After asking several locals and getting pretty nonsense answers, we find an inn that serves food and we order (fried beef with chips). Forty five minutes later and we're due back on the truck and the ...
... this time we got to dance with the kids. After the visit we tried to stay dry and just had a few games of Canasta then went on another mission of a walk up the hill which was so slippery from the rain (wearing thongs definitely not recommend ) to a place were we could see all 17 small islands around the area. The next day we ended up getting up at 4.30am, packing up our soaked tents and getting back onto our Kumuka bus where we drove for 11 hours back to Jinja.
