There was an abbey built on the site which was destroyed by an earthquake so a new one was built in the 18th century. A bit more walking around this exquisite place, a quick visit to a much quieter village then back to the hotel by 4pm. We caught up and rested till 7pm when we wandered as a group to the main piazza for a drink then to a restaurant for dinner. Good pizza and wine not too bad. Cool evening. Bed by 10.45. ...

... grappa with different flavoured sugars and liqueurs to add. We were so full we were uncomfortable. All the food was home grown, even the meat. Just superb. They charged Carol 20 euro a head!! It would be 100 dollars at home at least. She paid them 25 euro. Bit of a walk then a short drive to Sulmona where we are staying for the last three nights. Hotel Rojan is lovely and our room is spacious with a great bathroom. ...

... Bailey... Mmmm nice way to kick off the morning. Continuing on our walk we travelled through to piazza navona again checking out the artists and artwork. Then it was time to try and find the shops, so off we went. We struggled with our maps but after a while of walking we finally saw Fendi and knew we were there. Barrea to Pescasseroli

... a campsite just outside Pescasseroli heading towards what in winter is the ski station. The weather is hot and sunny and after siesta, we walked back towards the town centre to have a mooch around and find the tourist information centre. Pescasseroli isn't perched on a hill but is still pretty enough in its own way. It seems to be mainly geared up for the ski season. The tourist information was closed so we had an ice cream and headed back to the campsite.
