... mornig. Had breakfast at the epic 11th st diner, everything about this place was great. Artdeco within an inch of its life. Such cool dudes, none of the over the top american tip-based service, just a genuine, freindly "hey, hows it going" and great easy going vibe. And so inexpensive -you could easily have a huge breaky here for $10 including coffee/tea. Wendy got the breakfast burrito (she rated as awesome) and I had eggs, sausages, toast and 2 types ...
... later and we’re in a completely different world again seeing the Smokey mountains in full spring colour just as the bears came out. We finally started tanning on the Georgia and Carolina beaches, where dolphins came to join us. An epic bus journey to Las Vegas from Atlanta was absolutely hellish but it was amazing to see the mountains change to swamp, to prairies and then from yellow to brown to red desert, before landing in a big neon ...
... also delayed, but it left eight minutes before we got there. :-(
There were no seats available to Denver today or tomorrow so we were book to Kansas City on a flight that had been delayed from 6:15 to 8:15. While Jeff is standing at the counter getting these flights arranged, I get online and book us a room by the KC airport. I'm so happy to have enough credit card points to get our room for free. ...
... us through everything. Byron for informing us and teaching us about the Galapagos islands, and Edison for being an excellent tour guide and friend. I don't think I will ever experience something quite like this again and I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart that allowed me to go on this amazing journey. –Chris Fonte
I would like to thank my parents and everyone else who made this trip possible. It was the adventure of a lifetime, and ...
... a good pace... Since the terrain was hilly with some steep inclines. After the tour, we came back to the ship for food (can't miss a meal at this point) then headed out for a walk through the old city. The ship did not set sail until 9 PM so it provided some extra time for a great day to just take in the city, walk, and enjoy! This is our last stop on the way to Miami, which means our trip is quickly coming to an end. Two days at ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Villa Caprice Lauderdale by the Sea
Treated like FAMILY at the V.C.
I walked the Galt Ocean Mile to discover 2-3 inns and resorts. We were treated like Family at V..C. last year and we hope to continue returning with our children and grandchild--who loved the place at 19 months old!!!!!!!!
Great Get-Away Hotel
My wife and I spent a long weekend in September at the Villa Caprice (We were there between hurricanes and apparently the only ones in the hotel). Upon entering our room, we were delighted to see a spotlessly clean room with a freshly cleaned smell. We stayed on the second floor in room a 1-bedroom apartment with a beautiful view of the ocean (and sunrises) from both the living/dining room and our bedroom. The fully equipped kitchen had every utensil needed to make anything from a cake to thanksgiving dinner. The bathroom with Caswell Massey amenities had more than enough towels, with extras under the sink. The grounds were immaculately groomed as well as the heated pool. They offer free parking, free beach towels, free newspaper and fresh fruit and coffee every morning. There are several great restaurants within walking distance of which I recommend the Village Grille 1st, Aruba 2nd, and Mullign's 3rd. I have stayed in many hotels in my life, but the Villa Caprice has to be one of the best I ever stayed and would highly recommend it to anyone.
My husband and I returned yesterday from a week at the Villa Caprice. After many trips to Ft Lauderdale, we decided to give Lauderdale-by-the-Sea a try as we though it would be quieter. We were so right! We researched a few properties in the area and were so lucky to pick the Villa Caprice (thanks to TripAdvisor). From the moment we walked in, we loved it. Vivian (from the office) was so pleasant to us when I called to make the arrangements, then called to add another room for more family to join us.
It was a joy to be right on the beach. We had a one-bedroom (#30). I could not believe how clean the place was. The pool was sparkling clean every single day. The beach is wide and the sand is nice. They provide beach towels by the pool as well as the newspaper every day.
We were able to walk to Commercial Blvd where there are about 8 restaurants/bars and souvenier shops. We were also able to walk to a 7-11 and a Walgreen's. We never used the rental car (except to and from the airport and Publix). As a matter of fact, in 7 days, we put about 30 miles on the car. We just enjoyed the beach in the morning, then made our way over to the beach for the rest of the day.
After many trips to Florida (about 20 over the years), I think we finally found our "home away from home".
We will be back!!
A Magical Place!
What a wonderful place! Thank you, thank you, Trip Advisor for the wonderful web site that allowed us to find this resort. My husband and I have just returned from a week in one of their one bedroom apartments.... just steps away from the pool and the ocean.
Everything was spotless, and the enormous lawn, dotted with palm trees, is too good to be believed. Every afternoon, after sunning on the beach, we'd retire there and spread out on one of their wonderful chaises with our books, wine and cheese. Of course a nap soon followed!
Considering how chaotic Ft. Lauderdale Beach can be, this little bit of Heaven just a few miles up the coast, is the place for those wanting rest and relaxation.
We'll return many, many times!
Note: We were booked into #17 efficiency but changed to a one bedroom after viewing the room. While it was very nice, it was not set up for those spending more than a night or two.
We found the Villa Caprice a comfortable, clean, spacious place to stay. We loved the convienence of staying close to Ft. Lauderdale, and loved that we could open our sliding glass doors and be steps away from the sea. The 2 bedrooms we very large, the beds were very comfortable. the living room and kitchen were perfect with everything you would need in the kitchen. The staff was there for anything you needed. They also were extremely nice and helpful. The pool was warm and clean. This was our first year there, and we will be back.
You would NOT be disappointed if you stayed here and in fact you will be very pleased, as we were
A great place
Great value, quality and people. A place to go back every year!
The 2 bedrooms appartments facing the ocean are 4*'s.
The Villa Caprice
We travel to Florida each year in August and have been staying at the Villa Caprice for 5 years. I highly recommend staying at this beautiful, clean, well kept establishment. Views are stunning. A classy yet unpretenious staff and owner keep us all satisfied and are very helpful.
Quiet escape, better than main fort lauderdale sheraton
found this place through tripadvisor.com. we stayed at sheraton yankee clipper 2 yrs ago, and villa caprice had them beat hands down.
we were in room #17 (studio efficiency) right off the beach, and was able to watch the sunrise everymorning by stepping out 5 steps from our room. the rooms were nicely furnished and the kitchen, while small, was well equipped. the maid was very nice, though she did not turn over the rooms until 300pm sometimes.
the location was within 5 minutes walking distance to shops and restaurants (must try Aruba restaurant). the pool was kind of deep, and there was no hot tub. you do get unlimited use of towels.
the staff was very friendly. bed very comfortable. toilet a bit low on pressure at times.
overall great quiet beach getaway, but more for couples and not kid-oriented.
Best week of the year
April '98 new grandson born in Fort Lauderdale. Went down for a visit and stayed close by Villa Caprice in April. I asked my son to check the Villa Caprice for me as I wished to go down for Christmas. Stayed in a studio and it was great. I reserved 1 bedroom oceanfront apt for Christmas of '98 have been ever since. Time changed to mid fall as family moved up to Cape Cod but I still go down for vacation. The grounds are wonderful, staff is so accommodating and it's like heaven.
Every year you have the opportunity to meet the nicest folks and may be lucky enough to see them the next year as many are repeat guests as myself. Very safe and comfortable to spend some lazy time or busy time.
Whatever you choose to do. Location is perfect. Don't even need a car.
I look forward to my "Fla apt" every year.
Villa Caprice really is House of Joy!
WOW! What a gem! The best service, the cleanest rooms, and the great location are all nothing compared to the phenomenal view. King bed, room frig, all the extras (even Caswell Massey amenities), and a spotless, spectacular oceanfront room for $100 a night just can not be beat. We have already rebooked for 2 more trips! There is a lawn (and I mean a lush, groomed expanse of real grass) between the hotel and the gates down to the beach where guests can sunbathe looking out at the ocean, or linger in the shade reading a book, in these really comfy padded lounge chairs. The Villa Caprice's beach is wide, white, and ocean is perfect. Even the pool deck - where morning coffee is served with fruit and newspapers - is clean and refreshing. The place is first class all the way. The only way I would not recommend The Villa Caprice is if it were the last room because then I would want it for my own family!
