Sviesos 2d Palanga, Lithuania
It took just over 3 hours to drive from Vilnius to Klaipeda with very light traffic. The drive is a little boring, but comfortable. The Magnisima Hotel is in the new (er) part of town within walking distance from the old town and with a secure parking lot in the rear. The room (#7) is very spacious and tastefully furnished. The street misses a c...

I am going to another beach town, Palanga, 30 min North. Micro busses leave frequently. They appear to wait until full which can be 2 minutes or 40 minutes (like to Nida).
This is a total beach resort. It's pedestrian walk even has Carnival type rides, huge cafes, ice cream everywhere … The crowds dwarf Nida. The beach has a voll...
There is a 6:35 and a 7 AM bus to Klaipeda, a beach town on the Baltic Sea. I wake up at 5:30, before my alarm. I rush to make the earlier bus but I am told to go on the later one. English is not widely spoken. The ticket person knew numbers. The bus is a nice one, double decker and I am on top. 3.5 hours.
As I walked to the bus statio...
And now to one of the most bizarre things we've gone to see on this trip. In 1960 the Russians, who occupied Lithuania at the time, built a nuclear weapon facility in the middle of a forest. It took 10,000 people to build it over 2 years, all done in secret. Much of it had to be done by hand because of the noise factor - in fact it was so secret...
Zemaitija NP - Lithuania, Lithuania roamingmonkSo much for me not writing about places I visit! I couldn't let this one go by without a little more detail than the photos can provide. First of all, Palanga is the most gorgeous beach town I have ever visited! It is simply perfect (assuming you replace the Baltic with the Adriatic). The town is spotlessly clean, incredibly well-designed, full ...
Palanga, Lithuania rnrigginsIgnore what we said about the worst campsite this beats the lot - toilets were holes in the ground, the shower was invented by the local made professor and was patented trust me when i say no one will by buying it!. As for Palanga it deserves better a great beach resort with loads to do and see, cheap and good fun for a few days or a week well w...
Klaipeda, Klaipeda, Lithuania skjeggeboffDays 13 Palanga-Leipeja A most unsatisfactory nights sleep, my makeshift bedding of my silk sleeping bag and inflatable travel pillow wrapped in a sweatshirt is cold and uncomfortable. Because of the Early start I also slept without earplugs for the first time in a while so I can hear my alarm. At some ungodly hour after having woken up a dozen ...
Palanga, Lithuania markprendergastToday started bitterly cold. I don't think the hostel was heated :( Most of the hostels so far have been ace but with the heat in here I think I may have been better sleeping in the bus station next door (The location is fantastic though, almost in the parking lot of the bus station!). So it took me a bit to pull myself out of bed and brave outs...
