Chapter Five - Dover Castle
... and drizzle. At Dover we encounter a roaring gale and just drive through this rather unprepossessing port town. It's the closest town to the European continent, just 21 miles (34 kms.), and the coast of France can be seen from the cliff tops on a clear day (certainly not today!). It’s easy to find our way to Maidstone, but difficult to navigate the city streets. One false turn ends us up in the paid parking lot for the neighbouring shopping precinct. Not to worry. As well as getting our supplies at the supermarket, we also get to tour the rather scruffy mall.
