The thriller in Manila
... and you just dont get that riding in an air conditioned taxi. The jeepney routes are hard to work out especially if you dont know the area, they have a sign on the side with a destination but you may need to jump off half way there, for example I got a cubao to quiapo jeep to get to Intramuros as there are no jeeps that say Intramuros on the side so you have to get the quiapo jeep then jump off at intramuros, easier said than done when you dont know the place, ...
Room with a view - Not!
So, the Philippines it is then, cheap flight with Air Asia again. Now, as with some of the cheap airlines in UK, Air Asia don't technically fly into Manila which is the capital of the Philippines, they fly into Clarke International Airport, which is a two hour bus ride away. Filipino Story
... live in squatter settlements on the street or in shantytowns. This staggering number was a little easier to believe as my taxi ride to the bus depot passed through an endless sea of shantys and poverty housing. A very sad sight but the people seem quite happy and there are plenty of smiles despite the fact they are either unemployed or working for basically nothing. You know that labour is cheap when there is a man on a stool in the elevator to press the buttons for you.
