Bundi - again

... meant by that?!

I also went to the post office to mail the book that I had been reading about the history of Delhi ("City of Djinns") to my friend Branko, who lives in Delhi now. First of all, there is no concept of lining up (queueing) in India. It's every man for himself, with everyone trying to get served at the same time. Eventually I got with the plan and caught the attention of the clerk who informed me that I would have to go ...

The so called storybook village

... right next door! After walking round there (only to find they did not have a single room for cheap but the deluxe room for less cheap), i just took it as i was exhausted. When checking in, i met Aussie Zane and pommy Jeff and we all had dinner together on the water tank they are trying to pass off as a lake. While pretty, it was still not storybook pretty and we were all looking forward to finding this fabled village ...

... when everything that was thrown out could be eaten by the pigs and cows that roam the streets. The Indians haven't developed a way, though, to deal with the mounds of plastic trash that they generate each day. They just throw it into the streets along with the garbage - and it just piles up - making a rather hideous mess in some places. It doesn't seem to bother the people, though. At least not enough to make them want to clean it up. They could use a ...

The next day we left Bundi to make our way to the National Park in Ranthambhore, its about 3 hours train ride out of Agra so a good stop before hitting another hectic city, plus there is the hope of tigers there.. to get there we had to stop in a town called Kota for a night as no trains go direct from bundi.. all I will ...

another night in Bundi

... room there were a hundred monkeys chillin in the courtyard. He used a big stick to shoo them away and help us walk though. Bundi could be so much better than it is, it is such a pretty place. For such a small town the amount of pollution, noise, and traffic is unbelievable. It is sad really. One moto would be driving down the street blowing his horn the entire time. Multiply this by every vehicle that passes.

... end we have to escape: no more bloody photos! A couple of the older guys at the top are with their families and tell us to follow them to another sight. We can't quite work out what it is but follow anyway. Turns out to be a large dam about a kilometre away. The water is mostly gone but there are fishermen dragging tons of fish out of the remaining water and bagging them for market. We have some amusing interaction with the people we've met who ...

Bundi Festival

... Each group keeping claim to their own territory with frequent battles between them. The larger Langur monkeys are more chilled and are too busy eating to bother anyone. The monkeys can attack so you do have to be aware. Apart from the 100's of monkeys the fort consists of deserted run down buildings and massive baths that the monkeys now use for drinking holes. The derelict and rundown feel to the place does add to the spectacle. Some of the buildings are still in ...

... when your room key is just a padlock. When we got in that evening we put in the mozzy plug-in and sprayed some Deed after noticing a couple of mozzies flying about. Suddenly, as i closed the left curtain a large lizard scurried across the wall. I scurried across the floor falling into the other curtain and disturbing at least 20 mozzies and a moth. That was it! - out came the nets, the silk liners, long sleeve t-shirts and after bathing in Deet we settled down to ...

That'll be 2 with Coke, no ice thanks.

... There was a lot of head nodding and Hindu being spoken. The stethoscope was brought out and held to Andrew's chest about 6 times for about a millisecond each time, foot fungus was declared in English, a prescription was written, money was exchanged and 3 minutes later we were on our way. We could have used some Bundy in Bundi - not to drink - just to disinfect Andrew's toes with....
