We packed up our wet tents and awning this morning and headed out of Watkins Glen. ... to ride. We crossed NY on Hiways 8,12, 49, and I 90 to arrive at Hiway 14 which runs from I 90 to Watkins Glen.. We hen we arrived at Watkins glen the traffic was significant, probably due to the Automobile Races going on this weekend and next weekend. We managed to find our way to the rally site and get registered and set up before dark. The rally site is a 4H camp I the state park and is really quite nice, with a large open grassy area for tent camping.. Almost as nice ...
... and that includes Niagara Falls! Soft shale has eroded way under the limestone layers which then fall down and are eventually washed away. As we walked along I noticed what I thought was a lot of leaves fallen down along hte hillside and it turned out to be shale peices. Of course I had to put one in my pocket for our meager collection of stones.
A fun little stop which got us some hiking in an otherwise long day of driving and shopping.
