And so after a long flight - 12+ hours - we arrived in Paris, grabbed a quick drink and then on to Birmingham. Unfortunately, Pat's suitcase decided to stop off in Paris but will hopefully be delivered tomorrow! Back to a sunny UK, with a temperature not much cooler than Hanoi yesterday, where the blossom is in full swing. Lots of memories of a lovely holiday. ...

... is Jurassic limestone quarried nearby so all the buildings are basically the same color. The high street is one long series of connected buildings which gives it a cohesive, calm feeling.

Our cottage is literally over the arch on the second floor above the street. It's comfortable, charming and within a block of the High Street. Monday we start with a self guided walk around the town learning the history. Sir Baptist Hicks ...

... taking what they wanted and burning buildings. The ruins of one of the buildings still exists on the village outskirts.

In the pub where we had dinner there is a glass panel in the floor that has a "priest hole" under it. When King Henry VIII became Protestant and dissolved the monasteries, Catholics had to worship in secret, and many Catholic buildings had a priest hole built into them where a priest could hide in case ...
