... rupees too and i ended up with a good deal on both. I stamped out of India then stamped in to Nepal. Stamp, stamp, ink,ink no problems. Too easy. Next i found a bus company who were playing the fun, late night, last bus of theday game of How Many Nepalese Folk Can We Fit Into A Mini-bus & Still Squeeze In A Crazy Foreigner Travelling On A Well Overpriced Ticket Game. I really should have stayed at the ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India inoursuitcase... the Good is stronger. I have always been afraid it wasn't, and that the evil, my failures and inadequacies, were overtaking me. But I was being carried along by life's blessings, even when I was unconscious of them. They were carrying me even when I was blind to them, when I was drowning in my pain and fear and self loathing, when the grinding pathology of my mind dominated almost every waking moment. I have heard Baba say it a thousand times, but I have never seen it so ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India globalgramma... had remained in danger s and saved another girl's life rather than fleeing to safety herself as the avalanche approached. She paraplegic as a result and lives in London with her husband, Kit, whom she met while attending Cambridge. After hearing so many wonderful things about Cookie, it was great to finally meet her. The oldest daughter, Nasim (means early morning breeze), looks just like her grandmother did when she was young...very beautiful. Her groom, Shivi, is ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India globalgramma... ready to go myself. Thank god people in this country speak English, I
would say better than in Spain or France despite of that those
countries are the part of European Union. I was taken to the hotel, if
you can call that building this way. They call it a guest house. A
dirty old ****** building where a room was given to me. It was ok. I
didn’t ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India djslinger... I've felt threatened here in India. The security guard industry here is massive. There are one or two stationed at every good store, restaurant, cafe and hotel. Monuments and historical sites are crawling with them, and banks, post offices and other government buildings all have battalions of guards and army personnel huddled in posts out the fronts, rifles at the ready. In BBD Bagh I take a photo of the famous Writers Building before two army ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India ashleythomas... catch the ferry across to Howrah station for my train at to Delhi at 16.45. It arrives tomorrow at 09.55. 17 hours and 10 minutes to save you working it out. Wonder how many people i get can get ejected from this one. Just to finish with a bit of a moan. When i started blogging i got a few responses. These have dried up. I have no problem spending some time doing this but a bit of feedback would be nice i.e did Spurs win on Thursday night and who have they got today. Love x
Calcutta, India kenherr... with the goddess and eating her prasad (food that has been made for the goddess, blessed and then passed out to guests). The Bengalis are famous for their love of sweet things and I'm sure that will be a big part of this celebration. I hope I don't gain back all the weight I worked so hard to take off before this trip. Our agent in Orissa emailed me and said that she has had to change some of our plans there. We are ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), India nomadgal... in Jaipur. This is still partly an agricultural city. Herd of goats grazing in the car park of the cricket stadium. Walk to the flower market. Men lounging inside a dark dilapidated Victorian building by the bathing ghats. One fellow so fat he seems made of butter. People keep asking me about the white stuff on my ears and I must look into a sheet of metal to see that the sweat has brought out my sunscreen like a disease. In the muck of ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), India altnomad... and through the perpetual assault on the senses, experience our first real moment of connection with the city and its people. In front of us, a black skinned, grey haired barefoot man drags his tana-rickshaw to the side of the road and drops off three young kids, then begins to negotiate fares with a couple of aristocrats. Playing out the roles their castes demand, the aristocrats looked upon the rickshaw driver with distain and sternly demanded a lower fare ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), India jcls... needed to splash out and spend at least 5 dollars on accommodation, even 10. We found a really nice newly renovated hotel with staff who were literally tripping over to help you. All was going swimmingly until after lying down in bed for about 30 mins Mark started scratching. A little later he was covered in bites. The next morning we collected some of the many bed bugs and went to show the staff. They did not seem that surprised, which of ...
