... to a farmers market, the organic butchers, free range chickens and eggs, milk from a local dairy, buy products with no palm oil etc etc. Here it is near impossible, everything processed has either palm oil or MSG or both in it. The only instant coffee is Nestle, all meat is Halal and the end line product of the live export process that I have demonstrated against in Australia and there is no such thing as free range eggs. I am having to change my 'normal' ...

I opened the door to see what the world was doing and heard the evening prayer call, I find it a haunting kind of noise. I've been in Dhahran for a week, the people have been amazing, so friendly and welcoming, I have been out for lunch / dinner / parties and today I am being taken shopping. This will be my first trip out of the compound and into Khobar.

In the morning we went to the grocery shop, the fruit and veg was amazing. All kinds of eggplants, tomato's, fennel, lots of grapes, peaches and beautiful mango's. The olives at the deli counter were amazing, about 50 ...

... and about 10-15 minute walk from our house. Otherwise we take the shoppers buses to the malls/stores, and the bus is on the compound because they are company buses. Nicely air conditioned big buses like greyhound. And the bus ride takes 15-20 minutes depending on traffic.
Another thing we have to get use to is the level of customer service here. Its not the same as Calgary and some times it can be very frustrating. ...
