Cusco and Going Local

... quick, shallow breaths, and before too long, you’re nursing a beastly headache. In retrospect, I don’t think I fully appreciated that – in point of fact – meters actually aren’t the same as feet :) For the metric illiterate (I count myself as one), there are 3.28 feet in a meter (think yards), which means that Cusco is somewhere between 11,000 and 12,000 feet above sea level. I now fully believe that the people who choose to climb Everest ...

And on the Seventh Day...

Today is a free day to unwind. I hve already seen much of Cusco, so I start the day at 7:30am with breakfast at the hotel. With a whole day, and a short list of to-do´s, I decide to take in Sunday mass at the Cathedral, which is huge and beautifully constructed by the Spanish. I confess I dont know a lick of Spanish, but I remember enough Sunday mass to know what is going on, and the English responses. Yeah, so I don´t stick out like a sore thumb!
<br ...

... amp; we are looking forward to moving into nicer accomodation (see photos). Let´s hope we just remember not to get confused when asking for directions: the literal translation when replying is to say you catch the road to the right for example, in Peru you say tu coges (you catch) but in all of the other countries in S America this is translated as you f**k (sorry for any parents reading this) but it is important that we ...

... size of the boulders and precision of the construction is awe-inspiring. It really is hard to take it all in and fathom how much manpower and coordination this required, especially considering the Incas did not have the wheel.

Qenqo was a different experience entirely. ... level I´ve ever reached since first year of uni, and don´t really remember much after 3am. Apparently (and I vaguely remember this) I was busting out many-a Michael Jackson move - chamone! At one point we were all on the dance floor and Andy, seeing a floating balloon and thinking he was Ronaldinho, chested it before shaping up to knee it. Unfortunately it was at this exact moment that Nicki scurried towards the balloon head-first, attempting a header. The product was Andy´s ...

... of Andean markets just outside of the town of Pisac. There they sold the usual – Alpaca sweaters, souvenirs and snacks. We were then driven to the Inca ruins above Pisac. We followed a footpath from the parking lot to the ruins as the path goes through working farm terraces along the sides of the mountain. The tour guide gave us a short talk about the ruins and then we were allowed to stroll around. Pisac ruins were interesting to look at but I imagined ...
