    ... very friendly and helpful until he squashed his finger, not sure how but he was not a happy chappy anymore.
    Florida Hotel is in our very own lane way. Not much to look at up high but a lazy cat next door nd a very tall tree to break up the roofs. Lady who runs the hotel, Ruth what's her name?, is very helpful had maps and instructions and all the good Greek restaurants close by mapped ...

However, my favourite parts were an abandoned hospital (I think), which was appropriately creepy and atmospheric and another abandoned villa, which it turned out from subsequent investigation, is actually a villa built for Mussolini, during the Italian occupation. Apparently, Mussolini wanted to retire to rhodes, which obviously didn't pan out due to something to do with world war 2.     ... this beggars belief, the island used to grow enough wheat to necessitate a dozen windmills, which still line the ridge above town. How and where they possibly managed to grow even a handful of wheat on the steep rocky slopes, I have no idea. I stayed in the old town at the top of the hill above the harbour, which is an incredible maze of interlinking stairways and alleys, and completely pedestrian, giving it a very otherworldly feel.
