... a fascinating photographic exhibition on the elderly incarcerated population, detailing the stories of aged cons and the costs the public must bear to keep them locked up, as well as statistics on reoffending rates once an offender reaches 65. Many of these people have served lengthy time for crimes these days often go unpunished, and are often in their situation due to either desperation or simply a lack of education and options. ... realistic but somewhat worrying book about the inevitable decline of old age, Being Mortal, by an American Surgeon Atul Gwande. Having left Heathrow on time at 1130 we arrived in San Francisco at 1430, (11 hours not 3!) and soon found a taxi which took us on the twenty minute trip to the Buchanan Hotel which was in a part of San Francisco called Japantown. ... them getting up to no good!!

So the Smith's have well and truly conquered San Francisco and it's now time to move on. Next we pick up a car and begin our road trip through the US National Parks for the next 6 weeks. We've only been in the company of my Mum & Dad for a few days, but it's good to see that they've quickly adjusted to the life of a backpacker and bought the appropriate clothes!!!
