    ... skipping some route details here). So far, we're still able to complete the trip, even with the extra decade and attending aches, pains and joint replacements.

    While not necessarily a "departure" from our routine, we did get some big news. Anthony, after 35 years working with Portland Public Schools, will retire in June. Whoo-hoo - Congrats!(There's a photo of him holding a cake to this effect.)

    First thing in the morning John and Carole, Amr and I went up the road for a coffee. Came back and had a wonderful breakfast with Bev. The morning was foggy but by 10 am, as predicted, the fog had lifted and gone out to sea - like it seems to do up and down this west coast - in San Francisco and La Jolla.     ... of Garibaldi. The hotel's lights were off. The hotel sat across the parking lot from a raucous bar. I feared the motel might be a prostitution den, but my fears were relieved by the clean room and doting clerk. The clerk had to be roused from bed via a doorbell. She said it was nothing and that she was "just resting."  There were crab pots and boats in the parking lot.     ... with waterfalls spilling over their edges into the ocean below and fine sandy beaches begging to be surfed. What better place to start off our Oregon Coast adventure than here!After a long hike the first day, the preceding two days were full of enjoying the small town of Cannon Beach and renting surf gear to surf the beach of Short Sands where a couple good swells were suppose to be coming in over the next couple days.
