Jungle Adventure
On Sunday morning, we left Ayutthaya and headed to the train station. After being surprised by a motorbike driving out of the shop on the platform, we then got confused when an announcement started and every single person stood up and stopped what they were doing. Apparently, the National Anthem then started (or so we assume), so we also stood up, not quite knowing what was going on. Even a motorcyclist who was crossing the level-crossing by the side ...
Khao Yai Yee Haa!
Had a delightful cold shower to start our day today. Both of us delaying the inevitable , washing our dust matted hair. Today I turned out to be the only non-Germanic Conquistador on our expedition after we acquired a Martina Navratilova lookalike and her Martina Hingis lookalike daughter. There was also another guy who I thought might have been Spanish for a while, but he turned out to be German too. What are the odds?! After re-boarding the Deutschland Express ...
Jungle Bound - the bats and the bee
We were both pleased to be leave Bangkok today and head for Khao Yai National Park. We got a taxi from our luxurious accommodation to the bus station which took about an hour. From the station we got on a bus to Pakchong which was meant to take 1.5 hours but actually took 3.5 hours, probably down to the fact we stopped at every little food stall and village along the way where people hawking fried somethingorother would squeeze down the aisle in the hope of offloading a little bag or ...
Roughing It at Khao Yai
... our bioarch professor at NC State, is a bit of a nerd. He’s just goofy, I don’t know how else to put it. He’s been wearing a fanny-pack since Day 1 in Bangkok and has all the outdoor clothes you might expect an archaeologist to wear (like those dry-fit, vented and collared Columbia shirts you can get at REI), and tops it all off with a cap that not only has a bill in the front, but also a giant flap in the back to cover his neck. Smart gear really, I suppose, but ...
