... this up to us was to send some Commerson and Peals dolphins alongside the boat to play for a few hours and to tease us with distant views of Magallanic penguin colonies. We also saw some Gentoo penguins and some Rockhopper penguins swimming by the ship. I was delighted to see the dolphins, Emma was convinced there was a conspiracy to keep us on the boat!!

Given the harsh conditions, I am surprised at the number of birds that either breed here or make the Falklands their home. I read that there would be sea lions along the shore (that can turn a penguin inside out with a savage shake!). Fortunately, we didn’t see that! I saw a lot of sea cabbage that reminded me of (an unrelated) plant I’ve seen along the Monterey peninsula. ...
