... It's serious, it's as common as seeing a Starbucks or regular coffee shop and business men go in as often as the tourists. The government take it seriously too, probably because they are men. There are rules in place. Only coffee or similar is to be sold, no alcohol. They must be in the business district of downtown area not it the suburbs and opening hours are to be normal coffee shop hours.

... going through immigration etc, Kes was a real gent and lent an elbow where needed. Although there was a bit of competition with another helper who looked at him with his one lady and said, "You've only got one....I've got two!" Although some aspects of the journey were slow, I'm pretty sure the age of our fellow passengers helped us to clear immigration that bit quicker. There was also a funny man who kept referring to his 40ish year old wife as 'abuelita' and pushing her onto ...

... one of the tourist shops to ask advice, & was pretty happy with what they came up with! Turns out Santiago has one of those hop on-hop off bus services much like our own Sydney Explorer bus! Braved the public bus, my first since arriving in Sth America! As it turns out it was more of a shuttle, not part of the public system at all, so wasn't as smart or brave as I gave myself credit for... Took me straight into town, a few stops along the way ...

... t look too bad. We decided on a shared taxi into to the city and after a tour round the centre, to drop others off, we go to our apartment. We don't usually go for modern concrete tower blocks, but the apartment was in a good location in the city and had a great view from the 15th floor across Cerro Santa Lucia to the mountains beyond.
