Admans and goobyes to India

... office with 15 minutes to closing time but they had already packed up and shut the computers down- of course the workers found a way to be early when everything else is usually late! Hehe True to form, the post officers helped us out yet again and quickly packed up my drum and a few other items to send back home despite being ready to go home for the day. We could have come in the next morning and not been so rushed but we thought we were going to be able to ...

... trip into town. Store fronts and people were becoming more abundant as we climbed the hill and started down, until we suddenly turn a corner and the town came into full view. Directly in front of us in the center of a small traffic circle was a tall gold statue of a walking Gandhi and on the opposite side of the circle was a road leading up another hill. That road leading up the hill was lined with rundown multistory buildings tightly packed together on the sides of the road ...

... while I sat on the edge of the boat, and Johnnie laughed some more. Eventually I was convinced, and got in the water, but even then they kept on bumping into me and giving me the jitters. They had a rank texture like rubber and they were about 5 of them per square meter on the surface of the water, impossible to aviod. You might think I'm a big girl's blouse for writing this but I'm not ashamed, they are a MENACE, SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!!

... ass for the price too, especially the two-story units (though the beach up there kind of sucks unless you like swimming around in mangroves), and we wished we hadn't already reserved five days at Emerald Gecko. The reason I say that is that Emerald Gecko, while it's on a sweet bit of beach, is a weird joint. The huts are all spread out, they're positioned poorly and don't have beach views, and there's a huge gaping bunch of nothing in the middle of the grounds. It was kind of like ...

... constantly escaping from the ground. When we saw it, there is still an appearance of restrained unrest, with bubbles swelling and bursting in the grey of the mud. Somehow, the sight fails to enthuse onlookers whose crestfallen faces seem to indicate they were hoping to see an outburst of lava explode before them. Signboards stuck all around strive to educate visitors on the phenomenon but not many are seen reading them up. We take the bus back and stop ...

The first day in the Andamans

... Aberdeen Jetty, the sun is now a golden yellow and settling down into the Bay of Bengal. At the Jetty, we are met by Saleem who hand us the passes for the Sound & Light show at the Cellular Jail. And standing in front of the imposing gates of the most infamous prison in the whole of India were hordes of people, each of them just dying to get in. Time sure does funny things to places, and to people! The first glimpse of the Cellular Jail is something that ...

The BBC World Service warbled faintly against a background of distortion and I had to keep adjusting the tuner to catch snippets of headlines. And then, the signal strength suddenly grew strong for a moment and the solemn-voiced newsreader said 'It has now been confirmed by all the major television networks that George Bush was the winner in the US election'. And then the radio let out a ...
