We make up reasonably early and got a ride by the freakiest looking Tuk Tuk driver ever up to Galle Train Station. Getting the tickets was easy enough and then it was just a matter of waiting by the platform.

Best time to travel to Sri Lanka is all over the year depending on your requirement. Example if you want to have some rest in sandy beaches in Westerna and Southern part of coastal belt you would have to come from October to April, if you want such in Eastern coastal belt you have to come in from May to September.

we stayed at Royal Palms Beach hotel. It is a nice place, we were very happy with hotel. there are many shopping placess near the hotel. We want to buy some jewellery there. We visit more shops but its very defecult to find the place what we need to buy? some shops tell us very expensive price, some are selling synthetic stones and bad quality items. However we found the right place. it is a FREEDOM ...

After checking train times, walking around part of the new and old town we walked around the walls of the old town (befriended by some dogs) and watching cricket played by locals. It was amazing how some people scaled the fort walls in bare foot and others were jumping off the walls into the water for money for tourists. It poured down at sunset so we headed back for an amazing dinner and another early night before our early train ride.

Bentota itself was a nice beach, but mostly aimed at rich people! Tons of big expensive resorts. We sat in one of them to have a drink before heading back to our scummy cheapy. While we ate dinner we were accompanied by 2 whining cats. We tried feeding them a chilli, but that didn't go down well, so we ended up giving them our chicken bones just to keep them quiet!

... we could eat inside but decided that wasn't such a good idea when we realised the table was beside the family television. Only answer, we decided, was to head back to or hotel but by this time it was eight thirty. As expected, they had stopped serving but no problem, we could still eat. They offered us rice and curry which we accepted and when it arrived cold we were faced with two choices and we were both starving, it was not ...

There's not actually much to see within the Fort, though exceptions include the atmospheric Dutch Reformed Church completed in 1755, a still functioning but dilapidated post office with a very Dickensian-looking interior, the Point Utrecht Bastion which is topped by a slender white lighthouse built in 1938, and the early twentieth-century Meeran Jumma Mosque standing at the heart of Galle's Muslim ...

... the coast with a beach and budget guesthouses. Its beautiful, a lot of the accommodation here was obviously rebuilt after the tsunami, so its all fairly new, we are staying in a really nice guesthouse - its so clean and modern, there are a few restaurants straddling the wide sandy beach - and so far we have enjoyed good food and spent our last few days chilling out!! We shall stay here in Hikkaduwa until Wednesday, possible ...
