    ... the German submarine defences, as vividly described by Alistair McLEAN still exist. A bit of a disappointment, really. Large city, nothing at the port apart from blocked commercial entrances and a sailing school beside a vast aquarium, which would have taken a whole day to visit. Not even anywhere there to get some lunch! However, this was remedied at our evening stop at Vannes, where we had an excellent meal, including some of the best steak we've ever ...

    ... beside the two towers foR more photos, suddenly realised we'd been there 2 hours and they'd be closing for lunch, so had to walk very quickly back through the forest to the great gate. Which was shut, and the keeper or whatever he was was disappearing into the gatehouse, but he'd left the gate on the latch and we were able to get out and continue on our way to Vannes. The photos don't do it justice, impossible to capture the size and awesomeness - is that a word?

    ... were shutting but still managed to buy some seafood before the fish market closed. In the afternoon we went wandering around the town which was just lovely. There remains parts of the old town wall and ramparts, loads of half timbered houses etc. Just lovely.
