... records of the burials lost. It was common during the centuries, as it is today, to unearth spectacular intact Greek and Roman artifacts, like the Laocoon sculpture, commissioned and transported to Rome from Rhodes in the 1st century BC, but lost for centuries under Nero’s Golden House. Its discovery in 1506 became a sensation involving Pope Julius II ("Il Papa Terrible" for his bad temperament), Michaelangelo, Raphael ...

Today we went to ancient rome. We saw the coloseum. It was a big place where battles would take place, battles such as animal vs. human, animal vs. animal, or human vs. human. Under the floor where places were kept they also held prisonors there. There where dousons of trapped doors where animals would come out of nowhere.

... my mouth is watering just thinking about it.    We then saw the Trevi fountain which was all lit up at night.  I would have rather seen it at night I think, it just made it more magical.   I also made a wish and threw a penny over my right shoulder.. which I hope was the right shoulder to do it over.  Oops..   We then walked to the Spanish stairs which were also lit up.    Apparently, it's where they filmed America's next top model.  They ...

I introduce Giuliana to her relatives (who she only had the foggiest idea she had) - there is Silvio and his wife Maria and daughters, Simona and Michela (who is the 18 year old author of a romance called 'The Perfume of Love) and my other cousin Marco (Silvio's brother) and his wife Pina and daughter Sabrina. The area around Subiaco is very religious also and we visit St Scholastica's and ...

... its success, depended on the use of highway to prepare for battle and to afterward refresh and re-equip. The specific Via Appia was used as a main route for military supplies from the middle 300 B.C.'s and on for many later years. Bases allowed the Romans to keep large numbers in the field waiting for the opportunity to strike. In the late Republic the Romans were masters of road construction, but this art was not yet in ...

Exploring Rome

... I had spent the extra few euros for a map and had not been such a penny pincher. We found our way after a few minutes and once on track, St. Peters is hard to miss. I could see the Statues of saints standing high on the columns in the distance. As soon as we entered the square I began to remember why this is my favorite place on earth. There is something awe inspiring about St. Peters Square that I just haven't felt anywhere else in the world. Everything about it seems divine. The ...

Anyway, we try our best and the first site in the cross hairs was the Pantheon. Armed with a good map, which is of great importance, we rambled around the streets awe struck by the beautiful and majestic buildings. Like in Prague the closer we looked at a building the more details began to emerge ...

... for this one again and I hope this is true. On a 24 hour clock 20.40 is actually 8.40 not 10.40. I realize this at exactly 8.40. I am so ready to stumble onto my train and go to sleep but Im halfway across town. All right lets go look for another hostel then. Mistake number 3: By this stage Im starting to find this funny. The thing is when I originally booked my ticket I got the wrong day. I booked my ticket ...

The Evening's Festivities

After the group returned to Rome for the evening, we had our dinner together at a local tratoria. The vino casa flowed like, well wine, but it was delicious wine. Well not really, but it was free wine; that was all the mattered. We had our courses of anitpasta, pasta, meat, and desert all the while conversing about the wonderful things we had seen. When the meal had concluded Ben and I decided ...

At last we arrived at the Chapel made our way in and sat down, although we had seen many painted ceilings over the past few days to my untrained eyes they were all equally as good, But, nowhere else had the same atmosphere, a feeling of grandure, peace, serenity and togetherness. Just then Brenda whispered in my ear, talking is not allowed in here, "it is exactly 25 years to the minute ...
