Well according to the guide, Bintulu is really an industrial town where pollution is bad and not advisable to stay here. In fact, the cost of living in Bintulu was also very high due to the Japanese expats coming in for the factories. Eventually we made it to Turtle Beach I, 6 km from HQ and decided to go back, we had planned to go 1 km further to Turtle Beach II but due to the heat we'd decided to go back.

... between we arrived at Bintulu bus station (outside the city centre) around 17:45.
There we had to take another cab (normal one this time) to drop us of at a budget hotel, Kintown Inn.

Bintulu itself isn't really a nice town, just lots of industry around the city. The LP mentioned that there are many 'dodgy' hotels, so best to step up a category, which we did.

There are interesting villages to the east of town, the jungle trekking park, 4-hr Kemena River Safari, Similajau National Park, Wong Sunang Waterfall etc that I will like to indulge in but there isn't any time.

The 7th Borneo International Kite Festival will be from 21st - 26th, September 2011 in Bintulu.
