Day One - San Francisco

... it was a bus fashioned to look like a cable car, and so it was open at the sides and the back. We picked our seats and were given blankets that we could wrap around ourselves as there would be quite a wind when the bus
was moving, as you might expect Channy took about 4 of them and wrapped herself to look like some well to do homeless person. We were off and our tour guide was extremely well informed about the city of San Francisco, he ...

Cable cars, chocolate bars ...

... have thought! It's on our list for next time. We saw some of the foreshore, mainly the Ghirardelli chocolate shop which is a San Fran local and sells delicious chocolate, not to mention they are very generous with their samples, mmm delish!

Then it was onto the cable car, hanging on the outside of course, and rolling through the city. We were able to see the crookedest street (the street is a downhill zig-zag!), Grace Cathedral ...

Segways etc

... want Segways now!!! Although they cost $5000 :( I'm gonna sell my car and get a Segway instead :)

We went through training first of all and at first it felt sooo unnatural to put all your weight on two wheels and not just panic and fall off!! But after some practise we felt much more comfortable and became more and more confident...good job as the tours mainly out on the main roads of San Francisco!!! When we left the training area and got onto the roads ...

San Francisco Treats

... moon Bay and the quick tour of the city guided by my Aunt Lisa. Our tour started the the corner of Haight and Ashbury which is center of flower power in San Francisco and the former stomping ground of rock greats such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead. This was a really interesting neighborhood filled with hippies, bongs and Gibson guitars. As you can ...

A little more about Holiday Inn Express

... bacon and eggs neither of which had ever even been in the same room as pigs or chicken......or anything else remotely edible for that matter. Anyway, after breakfast we once again complained to the front desk about the room- this time The Train Station Room. The woman put on a great show of concern and the proper shock about the bugs from the first room. Not to worry, a lot of people were checking out and she was sure she could ...

... I'm not even at my right terminal. We rush over to terminal 2. Construction so we had to park in the parking lot and there was no drive up access. I finally make it to the Luftansa desk and get checked in. At security they inspected my bag. Everyone here speaks English, but I usually respond in French when I can. Security is much less stressful here than it is in America, I noted that on my way here ...

Day 2 Arrival in San Francisco

... as part of the Visa Waiver Scheme. Double and triple check your visa waiver and Customs forms are completed properly (front and back). The Immigration guys normally get a bad press for being ultra serious and straight laced. Our Guy (name tag of Anderson) was great, we chatted about where we were going on holiday, he said about where he'd been on holiday, he was winding down to the end ...

... In addition to driving us, he took us to photogenic locations where we were able to photograph places like Robin Williams' house and the Full House houses. He didn't only want to take us to our destination, he wanted to give us a show, a conversation, an experience. When we admitted that we needed to also make it back to the train station to Palo Alto, he generously deferred his itinerary and said he would wait for twenty minutes while we explored the Pacific Coast ...

... a few other people who had obviously also been standing in the wrong line and he would let us through first. The other people were really cool a family from Texas whose opinion of San Francisco was that it was nice as cities go but there were "too many big buildings in a small place and far too little open land" I guess coming from Texas everywhere is gonna seem cramped! They were really nice and I spent a long time talking to the ...
