Rained so hard last night it wasn't possible to go out of the hotel without better shoes and another change of clothes! So we had the worst meal of our trip at the hotel. Even had to get wet walking thru the lobby which is open to the sky. Amazing rain AND the rainy season is over!!! Got a taxi to the Flores airport for our early TACA flight to Guate City. What a beautiful new ...

... Razlike v slojih prebivalstva so velike in takoj opazne.
... to the side. Francisco really put on a grand show for us,,, saving the best for last!
I would certainly reccommend this man as the perfect guide. We were even invited to his family's home to meet his lovely wife, Marta, and their children. Marta's cooking specialty was tamales - which were delicious. We actually felt like one of the family by the time we left!
... school or a teacher to take an interest in the village children) to recruit those kids for the next school year. Pretty cool. In Guatemala, even if you're 13 years old, if you've never been to school, it's not too late to start first grade and learn the three Rs and all ...
3 Cups of Guatemalan Coffee: You're Building a School !!, Guatemala lamonafeliz... Went to see a live band last night at Los Peñas de Sol Latino, guitars and Andean pipes but not a condor paso in sight, thankfully. It´s so nice just hanging out in Antigua. Explored a ruined convent yesterday afternoon and we´ve been trying to find the ruined church (among many) we saw on the first afternoon just as it was closing
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala valetroy... window seat and the sky's were clear all the way from Spain across the ocean, over Miami, Cuba, Cancun and circling over Guatemala city. As we were coming into land I was able to see for miles around, the Mountainous forested highlands, open planes and vast volcanoes scattered around. I was now getting pretty excited about arriving and starting this epic journey.
Guatemala City, Western Highlands, Guatemala salsita... we had to do a little more navigating to get to the flowing lava (about 2 hours). Second time round the views were amazing! At the start there are lots of kids trying to sell walking sticks. I got one for 5Q and then it gets returned to the children, but they keep the money. I really liked the walking stick.
San Francisco de Sales, Escuintla, Guatemala feliz_carolina... coinciding with a small festival of traditional dancing of Guatemala. Both were pretty awesome. The protest seemed to be made of mostly leftists giving off a surprisingly militant vibe. Here's a couple pictures: Next we went to San Francisco Marroquin University and the Ixchel Museum on the grounds of the university. The museum contained exhibits relating to Mayan dress and Mayan culture. Honestly, not great: I didn't learn a lot, nor was I ...
Guatemala City, Western Highlands, Guatemala jaynichvolodovWe spent several happy weeks in what became one of my favourite countries in the world - Guatemala - travelling around and working for the animal rescue charity ARCAS in the jungle near Flores.
Where we stayed had no electricity and one day I will get around to typing up my numerous travel diaries from this period of my travels.
