... to the favela. That took the best part of 2hrs, bumper to bumper gridlock. Moving slower than a snails pace, we travelled maybe 5kms in that time. When we finally reached the favela, the taxi que was enormous. We eventually got in the white VW and got back to our room at 9pm. That's a 3hr transit from Christ the Redeemer, the worst of it being the last 5kms. At 9pm, traffic was still going strong! Had we realised, we would have just ...

Yesterday I woke up late. Around noon, Pistol Pete, Eliseo, and I met up for a beach day at Copa Cabana to drink beers and relax. I brought my mini acoustic travel guitar and my songwriting book with me as well, which turned out to be a great choice. I dove into the huge warm ocean waves for a while, and then came back to the beach to play guitar and sing some spontaneous blues. The day after the England loss to Italy and our night in Lapa safe to say was a bit of a write off. Hung out at Simons apartment, watched the Argentina game and headed back home for an early night. Which was broken somewhat when Ali received a 3.30am text from Simon saying we had access to a closed training session at the England camp tomorrow and press conference. Like a kid on Christmas Eve, Ali didn't sleep too well after that as he dreamt of being called up to the ...

... s fan power rankings, there is only one nation on our list: ARGENTINA. With a massive vehicle convoy, a wild beach party/rally that brought out significant numbers of Rio's riot force, and the general ubiquity of their blue-and-white-stripeyness, no one else even comes close. And let's remember that Argentina STILL HASN'T PLAYED A GAME. That happens tonight, against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Christo the Redeemer help this city if Argentina loses.... Be back soon from ...
