... and listening to monkeys chatter in the tree’s overhead. When we arrived at the waterfall we were really ready to cool off and take a dip. The water was pretty cold but it was nice and refreshing after the hike. The walk back was much easier with the majority being downhill. Ilha Grande has been a great place to relax and top up our tans. We also made great friends here who we plan to keep in touch with and even meet up with as our travel plans cross again. After a day of relaxing we decided to do a boat trip around half of the island. Our boat took us to 7 beaches and lagoons all around the island, including Lagoa Azul "Blue Lagoon", Lagoa Verde "Green Lagoon", Saco de Ceu, among others. We also stopped for lunch at a small beachside restaurant. After returning back to our hostel that night we decided to lay low as Fi was trying to get over a cold and Brett had developed a stomach bug.

thinking back to it now makes me smile...and the breakfast....

The icing on the cake was the trek to Lopez Mendes, which was unbelievably hot and sweaty, but offered beautiful views. The reward at the end of the trek was a mile of sweeping white sand cove and lively surf, surrounded by mountainous jungle. The beach was voted one of Brazilīs best and you can certainly see why. ... on which I spoke to this German woman who had done so much travelling. She has absolutely sold me on Ethiopia...must go!

I stayed in Che Logarto which is one of the 'party hostels' and it did live up to its reputation. I barely slept the whole time I was there!:) Met some fun people in my dorm :) Ihla Grande was nice, there are no roads/cars so you get water taxis everywhere or hike and it is really beautiful/tranquil!

... island, it took us maybe 5 minutes to find our "pousada" (or local BnB in Brazil-speak), Pousada Telhado Azul (which means Blue Roof in Potuguese) - the village is really that tiny. And apparently it is illegal to expand the village any further. Needless to say, the place survives on tourism. And it helps that the island has some of the best beaches I've ever seen and that this part of the world gets sunshine pretty much 365 days a year. Well, except for the day ...
