... and then turn left. Well after heading 10 km out of town and not finding a railway or a left turn we flagged down a pickup truck load of locals. "No esta camino no existe!" The road doesn't even exist! The railway has been abandoned for ages and we didn't even see a sign of it! We had to go back the way we came and get on the "Cuota" (toll road). We did save 128 pesos though as we got on the Cuota after the toll gate! That got us into Parras after ...
Zacatecas, Mexico mcginlays... was the Museo de Guadalupe (Arte Virreinal y Exposición de Carruajes Antiguos) located beside the beautiful cathedral. We weren't disappointed as we viewed an abundance of beautiful art. It was all a bit surrealistic as we toured the halls of this art gallery so richly decorated with some of the works of Cabrera and Villalpando among others. The surreality was not only the rich selections but also the lack of climate control as ...

Zacatecas, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lobo... San Luis Potosi - An Interesting City". Thirdly, it is the place where you will find the delicious fresh fruits for sale ready to eat in a plastic cup for about 10 pesos. That was a delight we enjoyed all over Mexico. It became our standard lunch. Beside the market there is a beautiful little plaza - the Plazuela Genaro Codiana -where the benches provide a moment of rest and a place to enjoy the fruit. There is also a little bakery located on the plaza ...
Zacatecas, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lobo... ve moved on to Guanajuato, and, as it turns out, Celine and the girls from Oregon have arrived here as well and are staying in the same hostel. I´ve been trading emails from Joerg and he might arrive later on this evening. I´ll write about Guanojuato later... It´s pretty cool, but PACKED with people. It´s another old mining town and there´s actually a bunch of roads that are underneath the city made from old mining tunnels, pretty cool...
Zacatecas, Mexico checky... The city is very walkable even though it seems very large. Once we arrived at La Bufa we decided to climb to the top to see the view. The breeze ofat the top was very calming and chil. The weather here is perfect. I though we were the only onces who decided to climb the rock, but several parties were already up there. The vibe here in Zacatecas is very chill and people just sit down and relax in all places. After having our hike up t La Bufa, it ...

It was fortunate that the rider was wearing a helmet as the bull suddenly stopped short and the rider hit the wall beneath us with an almighty thud. The clowns, anxiety painted across their faces, rushed towards the enraged bull, aiming to distract it before further damage was inflicted on the fallen rider. A couple ...
Zacatecas, Mexico fintan... they weren't worth dying for. Even so, a toot of the horn would have been appreciated. The highway climbed into hills covered in nopales, the bushy cacti comprising of long chains of broad flat nodes resembling glued together table tennis bats. The dangerous sounding township of Villa Insurgentes faded behind me as the air thinned and I continued to ascend towards the rock pinnacles atop the ridge. On the far side of the pass a group of bored soldiers at a military ...

The hostel has a couple of kitchens, tv, internet access (via one computer), a beer lounge with cheap beer, and a fantastic terrace with a great view of the cathedral. It is friendly. The owner speaks english and I spend very little time there. I think in future I will try for private rooms - the hostel atmosphere is fine and the facilities fine - but I find being conscious of otheres when going to bed or getting up is hard, and ...
Zacatecas, Mexico sheppardHi, it seems to be that time again. Since my last e-mail I've been to Guanajuato, Guadalajara (again), Barra de Navidad and now I'm actually back in Puerto Vallarta. However, while the last few days have been relatively quiet, I think that by the time I finish with Zacatecas I'll have had enough for tonight. The day after the callejonada (see the last e-mail) everybody slept pretty late, and once we were starting to feel semi-alive again myself, Johnny (Eng), Cristina (Swi ...
