HIGHLIGHTS Sat 7 Dec: Tulum & Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is only 75 minutes away from Cancún.

Maya / Toltec ruins of Tulúm was a small and felt like a park with walkways well defined. It was the setting on the 12-meter / 39 ft tall cliffs cliff top that impressed me. Otherwise just a pile of rocks.

The iguanas certainly brought back my memories of 2 years ago same time when I was in the Galapagos Islands.

A 7.45 am departure from the hotel meant that we were able to catch the 8 am bus to the beautiful beach resort of Playa del Carmen which was only 75 minutes away from Cancún.

As expected our Playa del Carmen Hotel rooms weren’t ready but we left the bags in one room. Fortunately an air con mini van from the airport was outside and he …

I did have to pee like mad on the boat and that was further delayed because we were docked and the Mexican coastguard was checking the boats and dive masters papers-and they apparently did not have ...

... not enough to sway me from the adventure.

We gathered our tanks and gear, loaded up the Hilux and took off down the freeway to Tulum; Marco, our Argentinian dive-master cranked the stereo and let down the windows. We turned off the freeway and bumbled along a dusty road and parked the truck in amongst a handful of other dive-trucks.

‘Lets get going, this place will be busy in an hour’ Marco states. We gear up and wander down to Chac Mool ...

    Carnaval de Mexico

... br> It's not until Shrove Tuesday that the Carnaval parade and real hardcore adult celebrations happens. One last day of indulgence in food, alcohol and sexiness before Lent starts. We'll miss this fiesta but we've had so many in Mexico already. Besides, Brazil is the place best known for carnaval.

Our time in Mexico has drawn to a natural close. The time has come to cry and leave this beloved ...
