... with many other Nazi flags and banners into a heap at the foot of Lenin's tomb in Red Square during the Victory Parade. Victory Day (when Hitler was defeated in Russia) would be similar to our ANZAC Day in terms of remembrance of the sacrifice of soldiers, but in Russia's situation it was the end of the invasion of their country.

An additional note about Hitler's attempted invasion of Russia: he was so confident of a successful invasion that he had two train carriages ...

... or b) realise there are NO signposted subways in Moscow!! After a small delay we arrive in Red Square to a stunning vista. This really is a beautiful place fenced in on all sides by beautiful and historic buildings. But nowhere cheap to buy a coffee... So we ventured to another part of town and stumbled upon the place where the trendy young Moscovites drink / smoke. Really makes you appreciate the smoking ban. But we enjoy the local vodka and end ...

Spent last night at Munich airport - very pleasant & uneventful.

Flew to Moscow. On arrival, we were detained in Passport Control because, despite our best efforts, we were not provided with the correct paperwork to enter Russia. After 1.5 hours, we were told we would have to leave, so purchased a ticket for 640 euro to fly to Dusseldorf in Germany as that was the earliest flight we could get back to ...

Moscow is as far East as I go this trip, after this it's South to Georgia then West through Turkey.

... we had lost two hours in time zones and we are way north it doesn't get dark until after 10 pm I was looking out the window at the country side. For the most part it is very agrarian and the homes are small in very poor. Some of them had smoke coming from the chimney as that must have been how they were cooking as they didn't need it for heat.
