... evening we had a super night with Cousin Dan and Sheila in their very nice village of Scotch Corner (I think a population of 350). After very sad good byes we are now back in Chamonix. It's always hard leaving Aunty Chris and Neville. Interesting for us, Chamonix felt like "coming home". The snow is further down the mountain, the trees are all golden and we are now off to watch NZ v Australia in the Grand Final. Go the Mighty All Blacks. ...

    The Kitchen !

... potato dish with local cheese. My storage container of duck fat grows, as the recipe for duck confit steadily improves. The refrigerator now boasts a minimum of five different cheeses, one of two which are exceedingly smelly, and permeate the kitchen every time the frig door is opened. All I need now is a good old fashioned French Grand Mother who knows the finer points of the regional cuisine and the patience to teach me. That might be a hard ...

Carrefour is like a Walmart, but dosed up on body enhancing steroids and sporting a suntan. It’s big and loud, with specials ...

... that the ride was spectacular would be an understatement, and the fact that it was a beautiful sunny day sure helped. Some parts were very steep on the second segment, with the car passing very near to the jagged and deeply fissured rock faces, which looked as if they could break apart at any minute and tumble down to the valley below. Other parts of the ride had a more “gentle” climb. As the cable car approached the top station, I looked upwards and could ...

By Ali - our next day watching Le Tour de France

... 7 ks back to the car. It was a stream of heavy traffic and loads of bikes in the cycle lanes (with walkers as well). James navigated with ease with his GoPro filming the ride. The GoPro Van pulled up next to James on the road and handed Paul a GoPro cap to give James. This is worn with pride. We drove home extremely happy with having been lucky enough to watch two days of Le Tour de France. ...
