Historical Traveler Reviews Peace and Plenty Inn Devonport

A Unique Place to Stay

from anonymous

We stayed here for two nights in April and found it utterly delightful. Judy is a warm and generous host. The decor is gorgeous, the rear garden subtropical and the location very convenient. We didn't need a rental car as this inn is walking distance from the ferry which sails regularly to/from downtown Auckland. Devonport has a pleasant village feeling with boutique shops and a good choice of restaurants and cafes.

But best of all is The Peace and Plenty Inn!

A great weekend away for locals, as well as for tourists!

from anonymous

Devonport, just across the harbour from busy Auckland, is a lovely haven for a weekend away. The well positioned Peace and Plenty Inn is an excellent place to stay. The name says it all - there is a real feel of peace and tranquillity when entering this beautifully refurbished Victorian home. You will be welcomed with a big smile and lots of advice about the area and what to do there, should you require it. They have a very good web site which shows the rooms and facilities: (---) The house has lovely art work and handmade crafts displayed and the beautiful garden has the feel of an oasis with it's water feature, tall palms and greenery (not to mention Bromeliads). The breakfast we had was very tasty and if you wish you may sit and chat with guests also visiting, or have your own private table. My husband and I very much enjoyed our weekend at The Peace and Plenty Inn and would recommend a visit for locals, as well as tourists.....

Top Choice in Auckland

from anonymous

Just across the bridge from busy downtown Auckland lies the quiet town of Devonport and the beautiful Peace and Plenty B&B. It is truly an elegant and peaceful escape from the noise and traffic of the city. The lovely setting, the short walk to the beach, the beautiful rooms, baths, and the unsurpassed breakfast (don't miss this!), make this B&B not just a place to stay, but a true vacation destination for visitors to the Auckland area. The comfort of home, friendly advice and the professional, warm care of a renown inn make the Peace and Plenty my top choice.

Wonderful Bed and Breakfast

from anonymous

This is a first class Bed and Breakfast owned and run by a fabulous, lady, Judy. Judy goes out of her way to make one feel extra special in her home and she is full of information about what to see and do. The B&B is beautiful, warm, very clean and the gardens are spectacular. Did I mention the breakfast? Just outstanding! What a find!! Devonport is a quaint town, and Auckland is just a ferry ride away. If going to Auckland, stay in Devonport and most definitely stay at the Peace and Plenty Inn. We were lucky enough to have 2 nights there and we would go back in a heartbeat!

A gourmet experience

from garbo

We stayed one night at this bed and breakfast-the day before we flew out from NZ. This was a nice end to our short trip on the north island. Devonport is a really cute suburb directly across from Auckland. You can either take a ferry to the city or drive there, which will take 20 mins.

We had a lovely room that had a nice balcony, which overlooked the harbor bridge. The staff served a huge gourmet breakfast-such as belgian waffles.

This place is best for honeymooners or couples.

5 star Peace and Plenty

from anonymous

In our recent holiday of two months in NZ, the Peace and Plenty B & B, Devonport, Auckland, was by far the most enjoyable. Its location, ambiance and the care and attention shown us by the owner Mrs Judy Machin and her staff was really excellent. 'Peace and Plenty' certainly lives up to the description on its web site; a beautiful old house and garden with pretty and comfortable rooms, breakfasts to die for, and an owner who really cares about the well being of her guests. Devonport itself is a wonderful, peaceful location; lovely views over Auckland Bay, easy ferry access to city and islands, charming old 'cottages' and a good choice of local restaurants. The ideal 'home from home' in the city!

Paradise Found

from df1606

Over tha past 12 months I have travelled to Barcelona, Milan, Prague, Beijing, Rome and Auckland - in that order. Because each trip has had a business component I have had the good fortune to always stay in the best accommodations.

However, nothing compares to the experience I recently enjoyed at the Peace and Plenty.

From the grace and elegance of the decor, to the understated style and attentiveness of the service, to the tranquility of the setting - nothing compares with the Peace and Plenty.

And then there's Judith; not only the owner but more especially the gracious host and advisor who does everything to make your experience unforgetable. Providing advice about where to dine, what to visit and how to get from A to B. Anyone can create a beautiful Bed and Breakfast establishment, but it is the very few that give so freely of their care and kindness to turn vacation accommodation into a loving home.

And of course no review of the Peace and Plenty would be complete without discussing the location. This home away fom home is nestled in the charming seaside village of Devonport. When staying at the Peace and Plenty you have cafes and fine dining around the corner, the ocean a stones throw away, and the ferry that whisks you across the harbour to Auckland is just a five minute leisurely stroll through the village.

There is no doubt that all my future stays in Auckland will be at the Peace and Plenty. An unrivalled destination that was integral to making New Zealand the highlight of a year of endless global travel.

Great hospitality

from anonymous

We arrived very tired but we found the best hospitality we could wish for. Very warming and lovely place. Best way to begin our honeymoon.

Wonderful B&B

from anonymous

Wonderful B&B in Devonport, a very lovely suburb of Auckland across the gulf (15 min by ferry) from downtown. Fabulous views and very quaint area. Stay in Devonport rather than downtown Auckland. Peace & Plenty is very quaint with antiques and gourmet breakfast. Fabulous old house. Very quiet. Wonderful hostess and dog. This is a great place to stay while visiting Auckland. You can walk to the ferry to downtown and Whaihiki Island - a must do if visiting Auckland. Very scenic.

Our second day started with another great breakfast here at our B&B. The fresh fruit snd freshsqueezed orange juice is amazing and we get a choice of 3 different cooked breakfasts. A delicious way to get going in the morning. The weather was looking great today so we decided to take a ferry to beautiful Waiheke Island, known as the wine island …
