... for dodgy situations :) Its called Research, Research and more Research. One thing my time in the pantanal highlighted was the economic differences between the big ranches and the local farmers. I know Brazil is an emerging economy, but given the living conditions of some people (eg 18 months with no electricity on government supplied land), there's still some work to be done. Our entry into brazil was a bit of a culture shock. Other than the obvious language switch to Portuguese, the atmosphere instantly changed to jungle/carribean. On the bus to campo grande we were searched twice by military checkpoints, and our first hostel was infested with bedbugs (I slept in my hammock by the pool) More like Colombia than I had expected. We arrived to campo grande at 7 in the morning. It is a relatively large city that serves ...

Toto jsme si tedy nemohli nechat ujít. Zajímavostí Pantalu je jeho stav vody. V období dešů zde hladina vody zvedá o tři metry nad průměr a vše kolem je zaplavené. Ryby se rozeplují všude možně ...

... had of corse long gone by the time we came past though. I was a little supprised how no one else in our group cared much for the footprints I guess there is no pleasing some people, or maybe I get overly excited by that sort of thing! One downside of the pantanal was however the mosquitos!! The place is swarming. I think I did well to keep my bites below 100, Luke on the other had was less lucky, getting around 200 on the fisrt night!
