... in a nice coffee at a beautiful green place with impressive colonial buildings around and enjoyed a great italian-style expresso. Then we walked to cidade baixa where the guide shows a high concentration of bars. But we didn't find bars but we found the faroupilla park, the biggest in the city. The park was nice, the trees protect from the sun and there are cute boats to hire and pass some time on the little lagune. Then we got lost again a little when we tried ...

... ona motorbike drinking it. You have to drink it out of special mugs that have a straw that stops the loose tea going up it. By all accounts it tastes horrible and we're not eniterely sure if it contains drugs or not but it seems to be a big part of life here.

We then headed to an old port that the travel guide recommended but it seemed just a big industrial area, not really much to see. ...

... different from what I imagined from my small town experience of living in Rio Grande do Sul. Porto Alegre is really diverse in people and they have a really cool culture. When I was walking around the city on Sunday, there were so many people out and about, driving mate, practicing capoeira and generally just enjoying the nice day.

... is quite simple but involves lots of meat, cheese and beans and is very comforting and delicious), and the desire to actually see what the country has to offer. Due to the above mentioned factors I was much less social and touristy than I normally am on business trips so I can't even really say that I got a good feeling for the country. I would very much like to on another adventure though!
