At 6 o'clock we where back in Miami and checked in the famous Betsy hotel in Miami Beach Ocean Drive 1440. We went up to the room took a long shower and at around 9 we went down to have dinner. I tell you this dinner was much better then McDonalds Wraps or Chinese food what we usually eat.

After we got settled, Rich cooked us some terrific burgers and we ate dinner outside. It's quiet here, but a bit strange for me not to be in a house without wheels. I will get it, ...

Today, the boys (including Greg Hart and excluding me) went fishing. Don't they ever get tired of it? Mom stayed home with me and finished her book, Tripwire. Turned out to be pretty good or so she said. Then she went to get lunch at Coco's Kitchen--it's an ...
... for the beach... non-existent. A nice looking beach bar, but nobody in it....so no atmosphere. So on the face of things, a bad choice.. and you’d be quite right. Now this was just not what we expected from this part of the world at all. The hotel was full and we could not change our room either. Now who in their right minds would come to a place like this?
I kept wondering... because it intrigued me. So the following morning went exploring and what an eye opener. ...

Then we started the adventure of trying to find the adults' car so we could grab the key and head home since they were staying out. We got home around maybe 9:30? I worked on my essays. They ended up coming home at 11:00 and we hung out on the porch. I got to see a side of my uncle I never expected, haha. Trees bring out the best in everyone.
I finally fell asleep around 2:00.

Historical Traveler Reviews Ocean Beach Club Key Colony Beach
Upon returning to the Keys for a second year, we booked 3 nights at the Ocean Beach Club in Key Colony Beach. The hotel is located directly on the beach. Our room had a fantasic ocean view, however, was more expensive and smaller compared to others we have stayed in with 2 queen sized beds, There was a small fridge and coffee maker in the room, however, no coffee filters or coffee were provided. There is a restaurant and Tiki bar right next door, and we really didn't notice any excessive noise from it's close proximity. The area is generally very quiet and the hotel is in a good middle keys location.
After a bad night stay at a local hotel, we were recommended by a local to stay at the Ocean Beach Club. What a wonderful hotel! We were so pleased with this hotel from start to finish. First of all, it's located on a really nice island, Key Colony. It's quiet and clean in this part of town. We checked in late in the afternoon and the staff was very friendly and helpful, Dorothy. She made sure we knew everything about the area and the hotel. Our room was an island view, and we got a terrific rate of only $65 per night. You can't beat that! For anyone that is planning on visiting the Keys, September (after Labor Day) is a great time to travel. You can book rooms the day of and get affordable rates, as we did at the Ocean Beach Club.
I'm actually hesitant to write about the place and let others know it exists -- I want it to not be "discovered" and overrun.
Beware of Rate Errors!!
I emailed the resort requesting rate info. The lady (Ter) wrote me back and quoted me a rate. I called her to make a reservation and she realized she had quoted me the wrong rate and refused to honor it. She tried charging me $225 more for a week stay then what I had in writing. Her excuse was she did not look at the dates that I requested.. Be very careful if you make a reservation here as they might not be quoting you the correct rate. She even told me that she would get in big trouble with her boss (Dorothy). Be careful!!!
My husband and I stayed at the Ocean Beach Club in Key Colony Beach. We were looking for a spot that was centrally located in the Keys. We were very happy with our stay here. The room was clean, with a beautiful ocean view. There was a nice heated pool and hot tub which we enjoyed. There is live entertainment nightly next door at the Cabana Breezes. We enjoyed the music while sitting in the hot tub, but the noise didn't disturb us when we were trying to sleep (the rooms are pretty quiet). The staff at the hotel were quite pleasant and helpful, especially Dorothy on the evening shift. We really enjoyed our stay here and were able to travel south to Key West or north to Key Largo in a little over an hour, but enjoy our peaceful, quiet environment in the evening. We would definitely return to this hotel in the future. The view alone is worth the trip.
What we loved: The view is awesome! Just breathtaking. It's so nice to swim and enjoy the hot tub as it's right on the ocean. The restaraunt next to the hotel serves delicious, upscale food. The staff was very accomadating and pleasant. The rooms were very clean.
We stayed at the Ocean Beach Club over Christmas 2005. It was worth the 19 hour drive just too see the beautiful sunrise in the mornings. My children loved the beach and the pool. My husband loved the relaxing atmosphere. We are already planning our return trip.
Awesome Hotel, Highly Recommended!!
This is definitely one of the best hotels in Marathon. Staff was so friendly and the hotel is on a beautiful white sand beach overlooking the ocean. When we go back, we will be staying here again. Wonderful pool w/ spa 15ft away from the ocean. Wonderful rooms, very clean and spacious and priced right. One of my best nights I had in the Keys was outside at their Tiki bar. I just can't say enough about this hotel. You definitely won't be let down staying here. We drove around and saw a lot of Marathon's hotels, and this one was by far the best and the nicest. My husand and I can't wait to go back next year. We won't be looking for other hotels, we found the best!!
We could of stayed forever! If you want to sink into what I call "Keys Mode", then the Ocean Beach Club is the place for you! Just pack some tee's, shorts and a bathing suit....that's all you need! Our suite was clean, spacious and came with a view that was so relaxing that my husband and I could of easily spent our four days there on the balcony. (Speaking of which, the balcony is a common walk way with tables and chairs which offers not just the spetacular view of the Atlantic Ocean, but a great way to meet your neighbors!) If you must leave the building, there is a nice pool and beach along with a great tikki bar and restaurant next door. Unless you are into site seeing, you never have to get in your car to go anywhere! As I write this, it is August 3rd, 2005 and we got home yesterday....I'm to relaxed to work....still in "Keys Mode".....think I'll go lay by our pool and pretend.....
We stayed at the Ocean Beach Club Resort for two nights in late November 2004. First off I would say that the entire facility including the rooms are kept in immaculate shape. During the short time we were there the staff were always conspicuously moving about the property cleaning and straightening up. As I said our room was spotless and tastefully furnished (microwave & fridge) for such a small place, the furnishings were framed in dark wood with tropical designs, very nice. The floor was tile which is necessary for a small, very close to the water resort, there is a lot of moisture coming off the water which a consistent regulation of the AC helps to maintain a good comfort level in your room if you like the sliding glass or main door open. The maid service is very good and we had no complaints about that. The beach is just gorgeous and again spotless as well as totally exclusive to the resort. There is a small foot wide strip of seaweed that develops over time on the beach but it appeared to be swept off each morning by the staff. Directly on the beach there are many beach loungers, chairs and tables provided at no charge to the guests, which are meticulously straightened and tidied each morning. The pool and Jacuzzi (hot tub) are very clean and of adequate size for the resort. Next door is a restaurant and bar with what appears to be a very nice menu of seafood and other standard fare. The restaurant and the resort work closely together to serve the needs of the resort guests. You can enjoy a drink at the bar or a full course meal right on the water's edge. There is also an excellent pier that both the resort and restaurant share. If you like you can fish right from the pier where they have a well equipped fish cleaning station. If one wanted to just sit on the beach for a week or longer relaxing and enjoying the blue warm waters this place would just perfect for that. I actually woke one morning right at sunrise which happens right outside your ocean facing (make sure you book ocean facing) room and had a refreshing warm water swim in the Atlantic and a quiet stroll on the pier, unforgettable! And finally we have a baby which we had told the staff when we made our reservation. Moments after our arrival the staff turned up at our door with a nice full size wooden crib with bedding for our 18 month old baby girl. What a NICE touch that was! This resort is highly recommended by my family and a number of my friends and co-workers plan on visiting the OBCR in the near future. We'll be going back for a longer stay soon.
