... was the Russian way..Crazy stuff!!! We were not surprised to come across an accident, which looked quite nasty.. We had built up an expectation, that we would be hassled by police, as we drove our French plated Duster. We even prepared our wallets, so we could sort a bribe, without being fleeced by the local constabulary..So far it seems was a smooth run, minus the hold ups with road works, traffic accident and slow trucks. ...

Our first day on tour started in earnest – we were woken with music at 6.45am (wasn't this supposed to be a holiday?) After breakfast we were met onshore by our local tour guide before boarding the buses to take in the sights of St. Petersburg. Our list for sight-seeing seemed a little excessive however as we were only in St. Petersburg for one day we had a lot to fit in.

... was nice, but getting outside was our real goal. The gardens and gravity-fed fountains, modeled after Versailles, were very nice. We captured a number of nice photos, a sampling of them are included here.

We got back to St Petersburg about an hour late, which squeezed us on time to pack up the apartment and head out the door for the beginning of our journey back home. I'll capture that journey in the 19-June blog, even though it started on Tuesday ...
