Dubrovnik, Croatia richlumWoke up this morning to oppressive humidity as we slowly slid down Europe's southernmost fjord. Remnants of the former Yugoslavia's military bases still cling to the coastline, with submarine storage carved back at the shoreline and look ...
Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro kegibson... their plane to Belgrade as I drove back to New Jersey. Driving home I felt an odd combination of extreme sadness at the loss of my two best friends mixed with the cheerful prospect I would shortly be boarding a plane myself destined for Serbia and Montenegro by mid August 2002 when my student loan check arrived. Upon arriving home I immediately began making all necessary arrangements for my forthcoming trip. The day following Darko 's departure, I bought a great many prepaid phone ...
Serbia and Montenegro, Serbia lpcyu... per month. Maya, our delightful guide, said you could tell the Russians because they wore their shirts unbuttoned down to their beer belly and had young blonde girls on their arms. The old town was interesting but we didn't stay long as she said Kotor would be more interesting. The bus ride was interesting both directions. They had had a big fire during the extreme heat summer that had burned right over the main road. Kotor is at the foot of one of Europes deepest fjords ...

Kotor, Montenegro michlac... in one of the newer James Bond films were filmed here & you can see why! So, we eventually reach the Croatian border - 3 borders, & 4 countries in 1 day - that's definitely our record so far! All the driving has taken its toll on Winnie though - her indicators don't work again & the brakes aren't sounding too good either - get her to Dubrovnik & she can have a good service - bless her she's worked hard these past few days & needs some TLC!
Herceg-Novi, Serbia and Montenegro no1pablo... us. The storm eventually caught up with us towards the end of the 20 min ride down. We hung out in the restaurant drying off until the ski lift attendant offered us a lift back into town in his 1970's Land Rover. He has become one of the many people that have confirmed just how friendly the people are in the former Yugoslava countries. The next day we hiked for over 8 hours on a ridge walk that took us over 4 mountain peaks, all between 2200 and 2338 high. The last day here we spent ...
Zabljak, Montenegro mjozwell... time (never told Tammy that though). So, now I headed back down the hill, in a BIG hurry as it was getting darker. I knew the two young girls were back with her, but I was already gone for 10 minutes and I was now getting worried about Tammy's well-being. Since the ground had lots of loose dirt and was a bit rocky, I almost fell down a few times while hurrying down. However, I kept balance and was jogging down quickly, breaking a ...

We began a full scale exploration day with, you guessed it, a guided walking tour of the city. Although I tease about these tours, they are really the best way to see a new city without missing the details that would most likely be overlooked by aimless wandering. Don't get me wrong, we do plenty of wandering un-guided, but ...
Dubrovnik, Croatia the_stamms... part of the EU or not. Anyway, thanks Ruth for a great night out and enjoy your travels around Bosnia. To wrap this one up I'd just like to thank Dave and Nadia at Hippo Hostel in Budva. Only open since April, but this is already one of the best hostels I've stayed in and I wish you all the best for the future - I'm sure it will be a success. Check ...
