Holidays Galore!

... I walked straight to the shower without stopping. What a great night.

The next day I volunteered with a few friends from Hillel with people with disabilities. When I got to the school where we were volunteering, I remembered the first time I volunteered with people with disabilities which was at St. Joes in Scranton, PA the summer going into sophomore year of high school. My first day there was quite overwhelming, and it took a few weeks (we went ...

I am IN LOVE with this city!

... old mother who is very sweet. She has three daughters who are all married and each have a child under the age of 18 months who are all adorable!! One of the daughters and her husband have given me several recommendations of places I have to go in the city and out, bars, restaurants, stores, wines to try, heladerias (ice cream places) that I must try (I will get back to this later!). Anyway, they are super sweet and I kind of want to move in with ...

La Boca According to Wikipedia

... it. The conventional explanation is that the neighborhood sits at the mouth ("boca" in Spanish) of the Riachuelo. In 1882, after a lengthy general strike, La Boca seceded from Argentina, and the rebels raised the Genoese flag, which was immediately torn down personally by then President Julio Argentino Roca. It is known throughout the sporting world as the home of Boca ...

Buenos Aires.......The first day

... back to the Hotel I met up with The Canadians and we went out for dinner ( many hours had passed since lunch) and now I am back at the Hotel trying to type this log before falling asleep as it is now just on 8pm here; I think I am now on local time and can go to sleep soon. Our local area seemed to be just coming to life as I was coming back to the Hotel with a bunch of Eateries just opening so I look forward to seeing the place at night......... But thats for tomorrow.

In search of Evita

... around. Sadly some of the tombs are looking very run down with broken glass leaving them open to the elements but the authorities are working hard to preserve & restore. The Duarte tomb (Eva's family name) is actually very low key (but in perfect condition) compared to some of the others. Really worth a visit - there is definitely more to check out that just Evita.

Fotos gibt's hier: http://www.getdropbox.com/gallery/39061 6/1/BA?h=949b42

Commuting in Buenos Aires

... ordering in a restaurant added to my headache, having to ask for everything in Spanish. Together, I had 5 classes, full of readings in Spanish. I felt simply too tired to sit down and compose a well thought out entry             After my first semester in Buenos Aires, I returned to Philadelphia and spent the month of December with my family, and returned to Argentina immediately after New Years. I was eager to get back. My classes don't start until mid march ...

CHAPTER 1: INTRO AND ARGENTINE CUSTOMS ESCAPE

... on the newly privatised Tren de la Costa - 10 pounds return. Have I gone mad, or are public transport patrons getting fleeced in every corner of the globe now? Having come from Australia the "beaches" are a total disappointment. What is left to the public is a bit of a rubbish tip, with brown river water ensuring that togs stay firmly in backpack. The restaurants and bars are OK though, so we grab lunch and a beer in a nice colonial style place with a sprawling front lawn. In the ...

Tango time!

... to get a bit worn. In a few hours, I actually managed to put together an outfit that passed. BA is a huge, bustling, modern city, and was such a nice change from cities in Lima and Ecuador where I´ve been all this time, and wandering up and down the length of Av Florida, the huge pedestrian-only shopping street in the centre, helped to ease some of the cultural overload I was feeling by the end of my time in Peru. I had planned, before I arrived in BA, to sample a local ...

Day 200 - Buenos Aires

... in September!

My destination was the "Tangol" tour office, where I'd learnt was one of the best places to book tickets to the Boca v Colon Sante Fe game on Sunday.

I had a bit of a shock when we got to the price, because the tickets were unfeasibly expensive (50 quid each!) but all the books say ...
