... but I really would not wanna drive up there.
On friday we saw the castle buon consiglio, it was old but quite interessting. at night we went on to Bolzano/Bozen in South Tyrol. We stayed a friend of a friends house, we've never met before. but it was vey nice. giavanni lives with heidi, who is from south tyrol. It was so interessting talking to her about the situation in there, Ofiicially they belong to italy, but ...
No marmite, just rain
... Giant's pot. Disappointed not to find a large pot of marmite, as my imagination had led me to believe... this site was created by erosion during the ice age, these are little more than deep holes in the rock, one of which requires climbing up a iron ladder and the other is a deep pool of murky water. It was certainly worth the stop, as there was of course a geocache there and on International Earth Cache day... it couldn't be missed ;).
After this we ventured back down ...
Hiking ahead of the marathon
... the Bastion to all visiting the area as the views are pretty spectacular, even on a cloudy day like today. It's a 30 minute climb up a purpose built pathway and a nice walk. The chapel is a much longer climb but still achievable if you take it slowly and are prepared to scramble a little towards the end, again worth it for the views.
The rain held off, although the pine tree surrounds would have no doubt kept ...
Otzi the Iceman
... a recently missing climber. Each person brought on board revised the date of death back a few centuries, until it was confirmed that Otzi died around 5300 yrs ago. There was a tussle between countries, until Italy claimed Otzi by proving that he was found 96m inside their border, a precise figure. The museum is very interesting, somehow they have filled 5 floors with information and background, including the loopy letters ...
Tridentum- hidden city under Trento
... to us with sign language.
Once we emerged from Tridentum, the rain had almost stopped. We found the old Duomo, which made me think of Harry Potter with the carved creatures around the windows. Inside there were stairs on either side leading up to nowhere. Around the Duomo were plenty of old buildings and squares, with carvings and/or paintings on many buildings.
Dinner was delicious platter food found in a supermarket - ham, salami, cheese etc. Yum!
