... unreal, sun is fierce and not a breath of wind. Afternoons on the balcony are the order of the day, listening to all the birds shouting at each other and arguing over bread dropped on the floor at the cafe by the lake.

... 4 mountain passes. At the top of the first one Paso Falzarego, the altitude was 2100m, temperature 2°C and it was snowing quite heavily. The road had been salted which was a relief as we don’t have winter tyres. We stopped at the top of the pass and had a superb cappuccino in a cosy wooden restaurant.
Paso Pordoi was the final one. It has 33 hairpin bends on the up side and 27 on the descent to Carnazei.
