... the cockroaches!! I'm almost getting used to them now...I have to stop myself jumping away as well...as these people live with them all the time!! At one point a grabbed a wooden post to cut away at the wire and within seconds my hand was crawling with the tiniest ants. I don't know hopw I didn't freak!! I luckily had gloves on and quickly managed to squash them all....but from now on a carefully look at everything before touching.

Once ...
My Tho, Vietnam nastasAs our time in Vietnam was drawing to an end (we only had one more week left on our visa), we headed to My Tho... It was a lovely little town with friendly locals and fab food.

Our first task upon arrival was to sample the local speciality, Hu Tieu, which is a vermicelli soup with pork, chicken and herbs. It was yummy and very cheap (circa 50p per dish)!

The next day, we hired a boat and did a tour of the ...
My Tho, Vietnam annandrewabroad... which formed the mixture into bricks. Upon emergence they were cut by a guy seated on the other side of the machine. These were then loaded onto a cart and wheeled to a conveyor belt where they were unloaded by two swiftly-moving women. The belt carried the bricks up into the “beehive”-looking oven/kiln running on rice hulls for fuel. It was hot, dirty work and everyone was industrious and very busy. We walked outside and saw rows and rows of tiles formed the same way as ...
Mekong Delta, Vietnam lisabraz... sour and tasty.

We then reboarded the sampan for a short ride to a candy-making factory. For those who are interested, here is how to make rice crispy treats from scratch:

1.Pour raw rice into a large wok containing black sand and a little oil.
2.Stir constantly until rice has puffed several times its original size and turned white.
3.Pour mixture into a large sifter and shake until all sand and rice hulls have been removed.
4.Transfer the puffed rice ...
Mekong Delta, Vietnam lisabraz... a small price to pay for the scam. They bus we ended up getting not the nice air con bus were were told about but a rickety old thing full to the brim. When were crossing on a short ferry they bus let in the local sellers whi marched around selling food. Once they left people started eating and throwing the waste food on the floor etc. It was an experience anyways.

We arrive in Can Tho late enough so we just found a guesthouse and went bed.
My Tho, Vietnam leonnatmckenna... are all made by hand, which surprised me, you see them all lined up the same in the shops and assume they are machine made, but no, its all the work of a few people reusing the same mould and carefully putting the bits together.

The was a wonderful floating market as well. The boats typically sold one item, ie. Melons, or sweet potatoes, and displayed their wares on bamboo poles at the end of the boats. The boats were pretty large ...
Mekong Delta, Vietnam tess.johnson... only one from my boat but there are other tour groups here. They fed us dinner which was delicious. We had Elephant ear fish which is a common fish of the Mekong Delta. It’s deep fried and you make your own roll using rice paper, lettuce, mint, fish, tomato, and cucumber. It was so yummy. They also gave us rice and a tofu type of side with string beans. It was very yummy.

Day 2-

Things I’ve learned…so far:

<br ...
Mekong Delta, Vietnam allieadventures... to. The markets were one of the best parts of the trip. On the way back Suzie and I needed to pee so our guide took us to a small house/shop on the side of the road. The little girl took us to the toilet but it was a tarp around some tiles on the floor. We weren't sure where we were meant to pee so ended up peeing in the bush whilst the other stood guard. Our guide paid 5000Dong each for the privilege.

We were ushered in to a private air conditioned room again for a ...
Mekong Delta, Vietnam lukeandjen... After this episode, grandad is officially greeted as **** face grandad on most occassions. The Work Nothing could prepare us for the amount of work we would be doing. The first day i was in digging what would eventually be the *******...as its location was pretty close to the creek, it started to fill with the infested water, so the only way i could get in and clear it properly was to go bare feet...a good indication on what was to come. The only tools the site has is a couple ...
