Mignon Hotel Nice

ok, it was more "collecting a new country" than being really interested in Monaco. Strange, when you go there from Nice airport by bus it costs you 18 € one way, when you go from Nice bus terminal it costs 1 € one way. Monaco is a very clean city. I have never seen so many big and expensive cars. I saw the casino and the castle. Nice, but not spectacular.

I know I always write the same...great weather, such a nice city, good food....but I have to say that Nice was a (very) big surprise for me, I can say that it is my favourite city in Europe (ok, number 2 after Lisbon). You have the mountains, the Cote dŽAzur (when you see the water you know why the name is Cote dŽAzur), the market with fresh vegetables, fruits, honey, oil, soap, you have great restaurants ...

... gesture. We can't change the world but we can change the way these children start off in life and who knows where that will lead....

... hand lounge chairs. Thus we have to be pretty organised - everything has a home and has to go back there as soon as you've finished with it. This also means that every takes a long time... so our alarm goes off at 6,30am. This gives us 30 min to awake from our sleepy haze then coffee and breakfast 1/2 hr. Then make the bed into table and chairs. Change into running gear and run round the current place of abode. Shower and dress... even if we did everything with military ...

... for 6.50. Being slightly poor after Paris, we gladly took advantage of this offer, however there's only so many mini pizzas you can stomach.

The next morning, we mastered the tram service quickly and loved listening to the recorded messages that announced which stop we were at.... so chic and cute. Dani was geared up for some serious sun and sand - I mean this is the Riviera after all. She was a little disappointed when we walked down to the beach and discovered that instead of sand ...

... All of a sudden, we see this guy in flaming pink shorts yelling and his buddies around him, and then, a bouncer is walking towards his, very angry and just CLOCKS him. I'm talking knocks him the **** OUT. Now, i have this on film. First thign that happens, i turn off my camera and run up to the dude, he's out, and im trynig to tell ppl in bad french to not touch him in case he's got a broken neck and you don't try to wake people up the way they were by smacknig ...

... for our day.  We ended up eating breakfast at the same cafe a second time and the owner was a lovely man who was extremely helpful and remembered us.  I can't recall the name of the cafe unfortunately.  We wandered along the Promenade des Anglais and the sun on the ocean gave   the Cote d'Azur a very Azur (blue) look and was beckoning me in for a swim but we had more important plans in Cannes (see Cannes blog).  The beach in Nice is made of big pebbles but there are places ...

Nice is an interesting mix of pristine/modern and historic... there were awesome modern sculptures placed throughout the city, and the public transportation was this crazy, sleek monorail system. We then headed back to our hotel (which, by the way, was gorgeous and RIGHT on the water... the view from my room was amazing) and had dinner. I wasn't very impressed by the food, though.
