... evening we had a super night with Cousin Dan and Sheila in their very nice village of Scotch Corner (I think a population of 350). After very sad good byes we are now back in Chamonix. It's always hard leaving Aunty Chris and Neville. Interesting for us, Chamonix felt like "coming home". The snow is further down the mountain, the trees are all golden and we are now off to watch NZ v Australia in the Grand Final. Go the Mighty All Blacks. ...

... Club game in the weekend. It's well funded and even the Under 11 year olds have their own permanent changing rooms. This means the gear stays there all week and never comes home. No stinky Ice Hockey Bag at home anymore. Paul and I have plunged ourselves into learning French over the last 6 weeks. Paul will be super fluent by the time we leave! My fitness has taken a back step but we are generally doing one track run per week and then a hike ...

... reminds me of a by-gone student flat, where the washing machine use to double as additional storage. The cooktop (LPG gas) has two heats: ‘after burner’, and off. It’s darn near impossible to balance the delicate heat requirements of a risotto and the thermal urges of this cooktop. The saving grace of the kitchen has to be the oven. While small and compact, this thing will cook food perfectly, from a slow cooked casserole to ...

          Food Markets!

A travel blog entry by france-harrison on Sep 09, 2015

It’s hard to believe that we have been in France almost 11 weeks now. Since then, we’ve met some great people, marginally improved my French, made lots of new friends and, most importantly, learnt to shop (and hopefully cook) like a Frenchman.
To begin to cook, first you must have the ingredients. I love food markets, anywhere in the world. Whenever we visit a new city or town I’m happy to leave Ali to the Art Galleries and historical ...

Day 30 We woke to a glorious day, blue skies gentle breeze and the temperature in the 20s. Today we had only 187 km to travel on mostly fast roads, so we set off at 9:39am for a leisurely days ride. Once again I volunteered as "tail end charlie" as we had the whole group riding together. We left Chamoix riding West along the South East edge of Lake Thun towards Spiez. From Spiez we then headed west and crossed Jaunpass , 1509 meters. ...
