John, my brother in law and I had a magnificent day up at L'Aguille de Midi (3,841m) high above Chamonix followed by a three hour hike from the cable car's mid station to a glacier where we caught a little mountain cog railway back down to Chamonix.

A day to just relax and rest up.
Took the local bus (jammed with French schoolkids) the 5 min ride into Chamonix center. Lounged in the sun for much of day in the deck chairs outside the tourist office, explored more of the village and window shopped a little (but we could barely move our legs).
Grabbed a couple of burgers from Mickey D's (yes, we're getting homesick) and headed back to the hotel to relax on the deck overlooking the mountains with a bottle of wine.
