An epic train trip
... we could have spent more time in this beautiful city as
there was just something about it which made it quite charming, but before we
knew it, we had to do some last minute grocery shopping and were back at the
train station, waiting for our next train – this time to Krasnoyarsk.
Russia is a massive country and spans across 9 time zones, so you can
imagine the confusion when trying to organise train times and timetables ...
We're in Siberia!
Left our B&B at noon on Tuesday and had 9 hours to kill before the train left. Ended up sitting in the park by the tube and watching the world go by, McDonalds for lunch (by far the cheapest place to eat out) then tube to the station to wait for the train. While eating lunch a very enthusiastic Russian girl called Solphia befriended us. She was going to the UK in October and I think she wanted to practice her English. She was a bit too friendly ...
Breakfast Bark
... says 04:15 like all train and station clocks do across Russia. Local time though is now four hours ahead. Since boarding this train I've moved through two different time zones, each an hour head. Another woman without a cough but a bark worse than her bite comes to serve me after 04:30 Moscow time. She's an enormous lady with a posterior like a bus and as she turns away to shout my order of meaty soup with pickle juice to the scruffy looking cook at the end of the carriage, ...
Yekaterinburg - Omsk - Krasnoyarsk (TSE)
... je soms zelfs mensen op ziet struinen (zo arm is dit deel van de wereld mensen), overal oude auto's (overal in Rusland zit bij auto's het stuur soms links en soms rechts trouwens)en geen geasfalteerde wegen. 1 centraal, afgeschermd power station voor elektriciteit. Gooi er hier en daar nog eens forse industrie doorheen en je hebt een goede doorsnee van het landschap tussen Omsk en Krasnoyarsk. De dorpjes zijn enorm vervuild. Daarnaast heb ik een dood varken in de koelkast zien liggen ...

Day 7 – Krasnojarsk Regional Museum, Town, Intercessional Church on Hill
Spent the morning going through the guide book and deciding on exactly what I wanted to do before Moscow. Need at least 10 days for Moscow and St Petersburg and found I dont really have enough days to get there with to many long stops. Ended up deciding on Tomsk, Tjumen and Tobolsk provided I can get the train I want, Especially the Tomsk trains. Have a feeling I will end up stranded in Tomsk ...
