After a few beers, I went back to the albergue and spoke to the people there. It appeared that I was the only one starting there and the only one on a bike, so I gave them my advice on what was to come over the next couple of days.

às 7 da matina já estávamos de rabo alapado no selim, pois a jornada prometia ser longa. E posso agora disser com convicção que estou apta a subir à serra da estrela! Se 40 km na ciclovia custam, 78 com 2 serras pelo meio custa muito mais.... ... this elderly woman in a seat with crutches- she explained that she'd had a stroke down one side- and she told me that you can get a key for the hostel in the same bar I had been in. So back I went, asked for the key, though he made me wait till 4pm, and I got back to the hostel. I let myself in and though it was pretty dirty, it was bright and airy (you can't have it all...).
