    ... was a very enjoyable couple of hours. We all commented that it was surreal to be sitting by the Grand Canal as if it was an everyday occurrence.

    Of course I have one or two (thousand) holiday snaps to bore you with on my return! I have quite a few of bricks, walls, doors, etc which at the time I found interesting. I will become a hermit when I get home photoshopping the photos.

Venice was at its colourful best under sunny blue skies with an unbelievable number of gondolas, water buses and taxis along with residents and service vessels all jostling through the crowed waterways. Even given it is a 'quieter' time of year, there were people everywhere and St Mark's Square was swarming with pigeons and a number of immigrant nationalities peddling fake hand bags, ...

    ... students do support two late night neighborhoods which I found through careful research (and Google maps on phone to negotiate the alleys). Cheaper, but nothing spectacular, even on a Friday and Saturday night because the students most sit in groups outside nursing cheap beers brought from home, rather than mingling in the bars. C'est le vie. So, I have now seen Venice. I get the appeal, but really don't come in August. Next up is:
