It seems that our Russian tour guide is warming up to us. Either that or we are getting used to her. I believe that the real turning point was Greg telling Irena, in Russian, that he brought his own mattress. Why this phrase is in a phrase book under "Practical, being polite," no one is certain.

You could easily spend a week there. The showed us the highlights in 2.5 hours. We were beat. We were back to palace hopping today and a visit to Pushkin, named after Alexander Pushkin, one of Russia's most famous writers and poets. It is the site of Catherine's Palace and the smaller Alexander Palace. It was built for and by Catherine the Great who ruled Russia in the latter part of the 18th century and grew the empire dramatically during her reign.

... I didn't want to have to look up. The other option was the Nutcracker..but I knew that story already. So when we got there we walked up grand stairs to the theater and then took some more stairs to the upper balcony. It turns out our seats were terrible. They were on the side of the balcony so we had to turn our entire body to see the stage and then half of it was covered due to the railing. we decided we would move at Act II since there were a lot of seats open, ...

... Breakfasts have been ok, but I don't generally have brussel sprouts at all, much less for breakfast. I have become a fan of their porridge - as it is essentially thinner and sweeter oatmeal. Eggs are somewhat questionable as the Russians seem to love soft boiled eggs and not as much on the hard boiled ones. Lunches have been out and about and somewhat authentic - short of the Subway stop mentioned above. There was a great restaurant with borsht on our first day. ...
