Left down South for the Midlands!

Having packed most of the big stuff the night before we only had an hour or so before we left forthe hellish windy mountain road to the motorway. 2 hrs of driving at 30 mph around hairpins is really wearing...... Back to the Issoire municipal for a night of not good sleep assisted by noisy french people, very unusual.

What should have been a stress free ride to the train station turned into quite the debacle. Taxis were pretty much impossible to find and we ended up taking the bus to the train station. In the end, it wasn't an issue and we had plenty of time, but not without some added stress. Daniel was quite happy to ride first class on a TGV. This is something that he always wanted to do, since he was obsessed with trains when he ...

Hi from Lajo a little hamlet 3 days into our walk. Thanks for your comments on the blog. We haven't met or heard any English speaking people except for 2 Aussie women (no Americans or Brits or Canadians). While walking, we encounter very few people. Today we met only one other backpacker and then 3 people at a cafe 3 hours into the walk. It is much different than the Spanish Camino as there are not very many ...

Today was hot and hilly. We had trouble not only drinking enough water but finding it. Only one cafe today after about 2 hours of walking so it was a good thing we bought food for a picnic lunch. So far the Spanish appear to make much better coffee than the French. Absolutely stunning vistas today. A lot of the path today was very rocky. It was definitely a hard hike and some people were completely exhausted and not prepared for the hike. We are sitting as I ...

... Eventually it flattened out and we walked through grain fields and all we heard were church bells, birds and our feet. The trail was in very good shape. We went through one village with no stores and in the 2nd, which we got to at 11:30 the only bar was not serving food. We had another coffee ( Joanne's essential food group) and kept walking. We finally met our ...
