... Barra was a bit more subdued than Punta del Este. There are no fancy high-rises there, only small hotels, and many private residences. The latter seem to be mostly vacation retreats, and were shuttered for the off season, as were most of the places in Punta del Este. Juan Carlos had told us that, in the off season, the population of Punta del Este is only ~10,000 people, but in the peak season, January and February, it swells to over 500,000, and gets very crowded.

... signed credit card sheets and photo copies of drivers license is a bit disturbing). The Barrada Parque hotel seems a bit run down in some areas - like the gym room has rusty dangerous equipment and plants growing all over the wall. So hot sweaty nights on comfy beds may be the best we can get from this 3 or 4 star hotel in Punta.

... sure the prices were hiked up due to the cruise ship too. All in all worth a look. and the drive there is not too bad either you get some amazing views of the Punta del este coast line from this vantage point.

Then we headed to "la Pataia" ranch, nice country drive and they show you how Dule De Leche is made and once you walk around the traquil gardens and the kids do ...

... the coast north past the "mano monument" which is said to remind the people to hold on to their kids as this beach is the rough side and has a bigger wave break. We kept driving north past the famous Leonel bridge which is more like an amusment ride that a bridge we kept going around the roundabouts on either side to bo back over it.

We got to "La Barra" which is an exclusive bohemian ...
