Tonight is our last night in Bessine-sur-Gartempe, still at Chateau Constant as we requested to stay another night. Ana Marie, our hostess, is a marvel. Central American by birth, she was raised in America, married a Dutchman and moved to France! Of course she speaks each language of where she has lived fluently. We found her so friendly, and to have a host who understood everything we said was actually quite a relief. We find our French is ...

... 8211; our ancient post office accommodation is perched high up in the medieval laneways of Beynac overlooking the Dordogne River and below Chateaux du Beynac.

Next we headed out to visit the chateaux – another extremely steep walk to the top – it’s an incredibly well preserved castle and villages with awesome panoramic views.

On our return, Chris ventured out in the cold to collect some more wood – it was going to be a freezing night ...
